The refund calculator does not allow you to enter all of the details that may impact your income tax. It's purpose is to give you an estimate of your tax refund or amount due based on basic information entered regarding your income, deductions and filing status.
Your actually return includes a lot of detail information that results in an accurate calculation of your tax that may vary from the estimate arrived at in the refund calculator.
My taxes were straight forward. Just w-2s. There was no complicated information. You didnt answer my question.
I assume you mean the 'refund calculator' here.
Did you enter information into the 'refund calculator' from your W-2's, from pay stubs or from something else?
W-2s
I think you are right. My tax return is very basic, so if it can't calculate my taxes, it can't be trusted to calculate/estimate others. It gave me the figure of $4,100 when it was only $500. Single filer, standard deduction, etc. I chose to go with TaxAct instead and do not recommend TurboTax at all (their filing was also more expensive).
