The North Carolina Individual Income Tax Return Form D-400 is not yet available for e-filing. It is estimated to be available on 02/24/2022
Go to this TurboTax website for North Carolina state forms availability - https://care-cdn.prodsupportsite.a.intuit.com/forms-availability/turbotax_nc_online_individual.html
If you want to e-file your federal tax return now then change how you file the NC state return. This assumes that all of the forms and schedules included in your federal tax return are available for e-filing.
If using the TurboTax online editions click on File on the left side of the online program screen. On Step 3 of the File section click on Start or Revisit. Select the button File by Mail. Then change the filing status of the state return.
After the federal return is e-filed and accepted by the IRS you can e-file the state return when it is available for e-filing. Just use the same procedure and change the state return back to e-filing.
@Portia958 Please see the info shared above by @KevinMarkG1 . Your state has some forms delayed.
Any update to the e-file problem in NC?
Another user posted this information (see screenshot):e screenshot) that should help.
Oooh ok I see it now and thanks
@Portia958 The article indicates that this is an issue with NC. I believe it applies to all NC filers.
Your right I just read through it. Thanks so much for the reply
@Portia958 You're quite welcome. It's been a very trying year so far for NC users!
@Kat @Portia958 This is a normal for NC DOR they don’t begin “accepting” electronic transmissions until usually 3rd-4th week of February. We’ve lived here 23 years. It was the weirdest thing to me filing our taxes the first year.

@kat we must’ve posted this a thousand times 😂😆☺️
But let us try one last time to help.
NC resident here. They aren't accepting returns until Feb 28th so you can't file until then. To file federal, follow DoninGA's method. Worked flawlessly. Make sure you click file by mail, then uncheck the state. Federal should still say e-file.

If you want to e-file your federal tax return now you can.
You will edit how you file the NC state return.
If using the TurboTax online editions click on File on the left side of the online program screen.
If using mobile click the three lines upper left click File, you will see
Federal Return
NC State Return Click there inside the “box” click on the words NC State Return. You will see file later, file by mail/paper, choose mail. Sign and submit your federal electronically. Return to TurboTax 2/28/2022 to Electronically send your State Return in.
On Step 3 of the File section click on Start or Revisit. Select the button File by Mail. Then change the filing status of the state return.
After 2/28/2022 NC DOR will begin accepting e-file when it becomes available for e-filing. Just use the same procedure and change the state return back from paper to electronically/ efiling."
Totally worked! Thanks!
I owe NC $10. I also have to file SC where I get a return. If I do the workaroun will I be forced to mail SC in as well or can I file SC with federal? If I am forced to do both states as mail in will I get a refund on what they have already charged me to efile?

You can e-file the SC return with the federal and leave the NC return set as not being filed at this time.
I'm having the same issue. Received email from Turbotax saying the problem was corrected. Tried again - no go. NC here too.
