Statement import errors

When I tried to import a tax statement from my investment company, the totals doesn't match up. Happened on Robinhood and also Apex Clearing. The number of transactions imported is less than on the statements. Anyone else having this issue?

I would delete the imports and try again. It might be that not all of the information has been released for import.

If you received a "Success" message but your data hasn't appeared in TurboTax, it is likely due to recent browser security updates regarding Local Network Access.

To fix this you need to allow TurboTax to securely retrieve your data through your browser settings:

  1. Locate the View Site Information icon (the "tune" or "lock" icon) on the far left of your address bar, just before the URL.
  2. Find Local Network Access in the dropdown menu.
  3. Toggle the switch to ON.
  4. Refresh the page and attempt your import again.

If permissions aren't the issue, one of the following factors may be at play:

  • Brokerage Delays: While most forms arrive by January 31, many brokerages delay Consolidated 1099s (like the 1099-B) until mid-February due to complex reporting requirements.
  • Availability: Your brokerage must specifically "release" the import file to TurboTax. If it isn’t ready, we recommend checking back.
  • Connection Blocks: Active VPNs or aggressive Anti-Virus software can occasionally block the import feature between your bank and TurboTax. Try disabling them temporarily or switching to a different browser.

The issue is on PDF document import.

The issue is with PDF document import. It has happened on two different brokerages. Here's the observation.

On brokerage A: One PDF document is imported and it shows up as two separate 1099-B entries. The totals ($ and number of transactions) do not match the one PDF totals. There were 107 total transactions to be imported, which is well below the limit. About 15-20 transactions were not imported, resulting in the incorrect totals.

On brokerage B - I didn't count the number of transactions but they were mismatched resulting in incorrect totals. Fortunately, the brokerage B offered online download, which I used.

I'm still needing this PDF document import functionality for brokerage A.

If this was because of browser Privacy or LAN settings, I would have expected nothing to be imported at all, not partials.

As you can imagine on partials, it's difficult to identify the missing transactions.

The video was helpful to get the import into CSV. I honestly got better luck using Gemini to do the conversion. After I got that into TurboTax Online, it imported as one 1099-B. But I ran into other issues.

Gemini pointed out that I should have tried finding the brokerage differently, and that’s how I ended up solving the issue.

Bottom line is still the PDF statement import is still broken.

I am also seeing incorrect importing of PDFs to turbotax online, importing 1099Bs and 1099DIVs from Computershare, Blackstone, and North Haven.

For a Blackstone 1099DIV, Turbotax completely missed importing the Box 1a value (total ordinary dividends), incorrectly making my tax due lower.

For a North Haven 1099DIV, Turbotax incorrectly replicated the value it saw in box 3 (non-dividend distributions) into the adjacent box 4 (tax withheld), incorrectly making my tax due lower.

In the Computershare 1099B cases, Turbotax imported the individual stock sales, but then it also imported the "totals" row as another transaction, effectively doubling all the entries (proceeds, cost, gain/loss), which makes my tax due very incorrect. This happened for several separate 1099Bs that Computershare issued me from different accounts.

This is unforgivably bad.

In addition, Turbotax online incorrectly read a Consolidated 1099 PDF from Morgan Stanley and created a spurious 1099 OID for $2, without other fields such as the FEIN. When I clicked on "Show original doc" it showed me the TABLE OF CONTENTS of the 1099, which contained the line "1099-OID Original Issue Discount .................. 2" There was in fact a 1099OID on page 2 (alongside a 1099DIV and 1099INT) with all its boxes listed as $0.

Good grief!
