First time ever having to enter this. I entered a 1099-NEC. I have no expenses to enter. I finished entering all the questions for self-employed. Back on the income summary screen it says "Self-employment income and expenses" Needs Review. No matter how many times I go through that section it says "Needs Review". I thought perhaps it was going to require me to enter expenses. So I made up an expense just to see what would happen. The summary form still says that sections Needs Review. How can I make any progress on this? Turbo Tax will not tell me what is wrong with the section, only that is must be reviewed.

You'll want to look over your general information entered for self-employment income. Ensure all items under general info, payments and identification, tax details, and other situations are filled out for your business.
When filling out Form 1099-NEC, follow these steps:
I’ve looked at every section about a dozen times.
General Info: All questions answered. No issues.
Expenses: None (but it doesn’t like that, more later)
1099 Income: Form entered correctly, no errors.
Uncommon Situations: None
After entering all of that it does a review and tells me I should review the expenses section because I haven’t entered any. I normally just click the continue button and then get told “Needs Review”.
But on several occasions I made up an office expense. Then the review says “everything looks okay”. Then when I get back to the Your Income and Expenses summary screen it marks the self-employed section as “Needs Review”.
Why doesn’t turbo tax offer technical support for their product? This seems to be a product issue, not a tax expertise issue.
I just deleted the section on self-employed income and then started over re-entering it.
This seems to have resolved the situation. It’s possible it got in a bad state because the first time I entered 1099-NEC form, it got “stuck” half way saying I needed to upgrade the software I was using for self-employed forms. I don’t know if that was it or not, but it worked the “first-time” after I deleted that whole section and started over.
Thanks
In the future, you might consider clearing your browser's cache and delete cookies. A full or corrupted cache can keep TurboTax from functioning properly. If that doesn't work, sometimes trying a different browser such as Safari or Firefox if you're currently using Chrome and vice versa will resolve technical issues of the type you describe.
