At least for Idaho filers, I found that going into the forms directly and modifying the calculation for line 14 works to correct this issue and does not block electronic filing. It is obviously up to you on whether to try this or wait for Turbo Tax to complete their updates.
(1) Go to View -> Forms
(2) Select Idaho Form 40
(3) Go to the worksheet for line 14 - "State And Local Income or General Sales Taxes Worksheet"
(4) Override line e in the worksheet to match Federal Schedule A, line 5e
(5) Double-check that the calculation matches the Idaho instructions
This is obviously a work-around, so, again, your call on whether to try this or wait.
I keep seeing comments about going to “View->Forms” but I can’t seem to find it. I’m using the online version and not Desktop. Are the Forms only available on the Desktop version?
Also with the online version there are no flags that suggest there are any updates to the Idaho calculations pending. It feels as if TT wants me to file an inaccurate return.
@Ptmmryan Yes, forms view is only available in the desktop software; you will not be able to override values in TTO (and this is not recommended, generally). Also, you scared me for a moment, so I went into TurboTax Online to verify that the warning screen does appear; it's this one, the second screen in the state return interview:
Once this page has been cleared, you will be able to complete and file your Idaho state return. Thank you for your patience.
Roger,
Any information on release of the update?
Thanks.
This has been updated. See the screenshot from MelindaS1 on March 14.
I am still seeing the message posted from MelissaS1 on March 14. The bullets at the bottom says to 1. wait for updates or 2. File a return with a known error and amend later.
Are you saying the updates have been made? Maybe I’n just not refreshing my TTO properly?
I really want to file a correct return the first time, that’s why I was checking on the update timeline.
No, there has been no confirmed update indicating that the SALT fix has been rectified. If your software still shows the same behavior, it likely means the update has not been released, not that you failed to refresh TurboTax Online.
The updates in TurboTax online will occur automatically, so you do not need to update them manually. Updates happen each Thursday so check back after next Thursday to see if the update has been made.
