Residency Date Won't Change

Our son is in the military and he changed his state of residence.  I've entered the date of his residency changed incorrectly at first.  I've since fixed it?  But when I'm in his State return, it is using the wrong (entered in error) date.  I've gone in to the Personal Info tab and used the edit button to correct everything - but the State form is still using the wrong date and I'm not sure what to try next?

I'm thinking I'll need to delete the return and start over?  I've corrected and saved the return but when I go back in, the State form is still showing the wrong date.

If the Personal Info update did not solve this, please delete the current state return and add again, so it can pull fresh data from the federal return.  Most of the information in the state comes directly from the federal.

If this is TurboTax Online

  1. Go to the States section and click on the trashcan icon
  2. Confirm Delete
  3. Select Add another state button

In TurboTax Desktop

  1. Return to the federal portion of the return and on the menu bar select File
  2. Then click on Remove State Return
  3. Select the Remove button
  4. Select Yes
  5. Then return to the State section and add the state return again

Thank you for your quick reply!  Much appreciated!

To be cautious, I will ask - when I delete the State return, I will be able to access the State return again without repaying for it, correct?  I'm pretty sure that will be a yes but will ask just to be sure.

Thank you!

If you’ve already paid your state fees, you cannot delete that return, but you can refresh the data by selecting Start Over next to your state return on the Status of your state returns screen.
