Question about Schedule 1 line 8z

I'm using turbotax desktop version and I have income falls under schedule line 8z, other income. I entered the income and description in turbotax software, but the description only shows up in the sch 1 worksheet instead of the actual schedule 1 that is transmitting to IRS. Is it a bug for 2025 version? I did the same thing for 2024 and everything worked fine.

Question about Schedule 1 line 8z

What type of income item are you referring to? There are many types of income that might end up on 8z on Schedule 1 (1040).

I ask because my test worked fine, but, of course, I don't know how you entered this income. Please describe where you entered this income in the TurboTax desktop interview.

Question about Schedule 1 line 8z

Currently, I can have the correct amount and the correct tax. However, the description of the amount is not showing up in schedule 1

Here is my step:

Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C -> Other reportable income -> add -> enter the description (income from xxx) and the amount ($550).

The income shows up in the schedule 1 and the 1040 form. But there is no description for the entry (see screenshot) Screenshot 2026-01-23 154701.pngScreenshot 2026-01-23 154731.png

Question about Schedule 1 line 8z

The full description for "Other Income" Schedule 1 line 8z is reported on the "Other Income Statement" which is included with your 1040.

This is a change from previous years .

According to the IRS: (see page 92)

"List the type and amount of income. If necessary, include a statement showing the required information."

Question about Schedule 1 line 8z

I have the same issue. Yes, the full description for “other income” is reported on line 12 of the Other Income Statement.  However, it does not appear that the Other Income Statement will be included (submitted) with the 1040 because it is not printed when I print my 1040 using the “Returns For Filing” option. Also, Schedule 1 would say “See stmt” on line 8z if the statement was going to be submitted with the 1040.

I really think there is a bug here. The processing for “other income” on line 12 of the Other Income Statement should not have changed between 2024 and 2025 because there were no changes to the relevant IRS instructions. In addition, there was also an Other Income Statement in 2024 and all the information including the descriptions and amounts DID transfer from line 12 of that form to line 8z of Schedule 1.

Question about Schedule 1 line 8z

To see the statements, here's how to get all the forms and schedules.

TurboTax Online:

  1. Sign in to your TurboTax Account.
  2. Scroll down to the "Your tax returns & documents" section.
  3. Select the specific tax year you need (e.g., 2025).
  4. Click "Add a State" (you aren't actually adding one, but this "unlocks" the return so you can access the Print Center).
  5. In the left-hand menu, select Tax Tools > Print Center.
  6. Select Print, save or preview this year's return.
  7. The Key Step: Look for a checkbox or dropdown that says "Include government and TurboTax worksheets" or "All forms."
  8. Click View/Print to generate the full PDF, which will now include every schedule (like Schedule C, D, or E) and the internal worksheets.

TurboTax Desktop:

  1. If you used the software installed on your computer, you must open the specific program for that year (e.g., open the TurboTax 2024 app).
  2. Open your saved .tax file.
  3. Go to File > Print.
  4. In the print window, select the radio button for "All forms and worksheets."
  5. Choose "Save as PDF" to keep a digital copy with every detail.

Question about Schedule 1 line 8z

This answer does not address the issue of the other income descriptions not appearing on Schedule 1. I’m sure both efrankww and I (who are using TurboTax Desktop) know how to print all the forms and worksheets, and in any event the issue has to do with which forms would be printed for filing.
