Please help! Accidentally submitted a Non-Filer form

Payment is for the use of the program to complete a return that can be filed even if you have to mail the return in ... there is no extra fee for efiling which you cannot do because you had to amend the return.  Once paid the online fee is non refundable.

Please help! Accidentally submitted a Non-Filer form

I didn't realize initially that I had filed my taxes when I filled out the non-filers form. (My mistake, not the IRS). So when I read that is what I had done, I thought by canceling it - it would cancel it. So I filed like I normally would online with Turbo tax. Only to get to the end pay, then be told it won't go through because I have one already in the system.

I'm just doing it manually now.

Is it advisable to file the amended paper 1040x now? Someone says that there’s no staff at the IRS office at this time to follow-up all paper federal returns.

I'm not real sure. But definitely something to think about.

If you submitted the non-filer form, it was processed by the IRS as an original filed return.  Any subsequent filing cannot be filed electronically; it has to be mailed in.

If you file your return with a Form 1040X it will be processed like an amended return.

However, here are two other options:

  1. You don’t need to fill out the 1040X to get your return processed.  All you need to do is indicate in a cover letter to your 1040 that you filed a return to get the stimulus check and that this is a corrected return.
  2. You can simply write ‘1040X amended return’ on the top of the paper 1040.

Right now the IRS is not processing paper returns, but there will be no way for your to efile, so this is your only option.  Be prepared for a longer than usual processing time.

Please help! Accidentally submitted a Non-Filer form

PLEASE READ!! I FILLED OUT THE NON-FILER PAYMENT IN ERROR BACK ON SATURDAY, APRIL 18TH. AFTER CHECKING MY PAYMENT STATUS USING (GET MY PAYMENT) FOR OVER A WEEK THERE WAS NO CHANGE IN STATUS NOR A DATE TO RECEIVE MY PAYMENT.NOW I KNOW I NEED TO FILE MY 2018 or 2019 TAX RETURN BUT THE IRS WILL NOT ACCEPT IT ELECTRONICALLY. I TRIED CALLING MULTIPLE IRS NUMBERS FOR CLARIFICATION WITH NO LUCK OR HELP FROM ANY LIVE PERSON. SOME SAY TO MAIL IN THE 2018/2019 TAX RETURN AND OTHERS ARE SUGGESTING TO WAIT UNTIL AFTER THE JULY 15th DEADLINE TO RESUBMIT! I EVEN TRIED DELETING THE NON-FILER FORM WHICH IS MOOT SINCE THE IRS HAS ALREADY ACCEPTED IT. IT HAS NOW BEEN 10 DAYS SINCE I SUBMITTED THAT NON-FILER FORM (IN ERROR) BUT NOW MY REFUND STATUS HAS BEEN UPDATED ONLINE TO SHOW I WILL RECEIVE MY REFUND AT THE END OF THIS MONTH. ALSO, USE THE CORRECT GET MY PAYMENT OPTION. DO NOT USE THE OPTION PROVIDED WITHIN THE NON-FILER PORTAL TO CHECK THE STATUS. See below for attached link.

Same here! EXACTLY the same. I paid and everything. But read my update below in all caps. Depending on how long it has been since you’ve filled out that non-filer portal, there will eventually be an update as long as your using the correct “get my status” option. I’ve spent days trying to figure out how to fix my error with the non-filer form but today I happened to check the status again on a whim and I have refund date!! I wasn’t being patient enough I guess but if you made the same errors it’s a matter of it taking longer than others to update your refund status/date.
