I am desperate and have no idea where to turn for help. I accidentally submitted a Non-Filer form and need to delete that form and file my 2019 tax return instead so I can get my refund and stimulous money. I have no idea how to correct my error and appreciate any and all assistance.

if you reported as a non-filer, don't file yet

    wait until July 15.

there's no point filing now because IRS will not process your paper tax return.

if no action file a request for extension of time to file.

    wait some more.

I did the same thing. I’m worried because I already submitted a non filer on accident that I now can’t efile. Should I already start doing a 1040X?

    Same here, please help.

I was trying to e-file my 2019 tax form, it turned out that "a tax return with the same Social Security number has already been submitted".

Same! Did you receive any responses that would be helpful on what to do now? Will we still receive our stimulus check?

if you are a taxpayer and file a tax return, it says right on the IRS page, for non-filers only

"Do NOT use this tool if you will be filing a 2019 return"

Now you will have to file a paper 2019 return via US Mail

I made the same mistake and no one could help me, but i figured it out! Go to the non filer application site and press get started, then sign in and then press start over on the top right corner then it will ask you if you are ok with deleting everything and you press yes and then it will show that you never started anything. hope this helps!

You said you made the same mistake. So does that mean once you pressed "start over" it deleted your filing at the IRS ? I'm trying to file online my taxes and it won't allow me. I did what you said in the non-filer section. Did you file normally online afterwards or did you mail in your taxes?

    Many thanks!

Is it advisable to file the amended paper 1040x now? Someone says that there’s no staff at the IRS office at this time to follow-up all paper federal returns.

I'm not real sure. But definitely something to think about.

I did the same thing for the same reasons a few folks mentioned here. I was told by a tax preparer that I now have to mail in a 1040x. It sucks because there’s no way to contact anyone to get this resolved since everyone is working remotely and no one is picking up calls. What I’d like to know is whether sending the 1040x now even makes sense since it might get returned to me if there’s no one there to accept it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

     you don't have to file a 1040X.

Prepare your return as usual on Form 1040.

You can't e-File, so print it and mail it to the IRS
