Please help! Accidentally submitted a Non-Filer form

I didn't think there was.. Was hoping I was wrong.

Please help! Accidentally submitted a Non-Filer form

Oh ok :( this is so nerve racking!! :( I'm hoping since I deleted the non filer form it'll just send my check via mail to my address from 2018 taxes. Since I deleted the form I'm gonna try and file my 2019, I might have to file 1040x via mail but I'll see, this is all so confusing!

Please help! Accidentally submitted a Non-Filer form

I apparently can't file my taxes for 2019

Because I accidentally files the non filers payment thing

What should I do?

Please help! Accidentally submitted a Non-Filer form

Unfortunately, if you accidentally submitted the non-filer form but you really need to file a 2019 tax return you will not be able to file your 2019 tax return electronically.

Also, you will need to file Form 1040X, rather than Form 1040.

The non-filer submission was intended for taxpayers who truly did not need to submit a tax return for the tax year, and as such it created a very simple tax return submitting a $0 tax return.  This is true whether you originated your submission from the TurboTax site or the IRS site.

This means that you now have a tax return on file with the IRS, and to submit your true return, you will need to amend it by mail using Form 1040X.

If you used the TurboTax site to submit your return, you will be able to use your TurboTax account that you created to work through your amended return.

If you used the IRS site, using our downloaded software will provide a better amendment experience as it is easier to create the original return necessary prior to creating the amended return.  You can purchase that software here: TurboTax Download Software.

Please help! Accidentally submitted a Non-Filer form

Question, so since I accidentally filed the non filer at the IRS website. My 2019 tax now being rejected as well if filed electronically. So my question now is when I go to the IRS website and check my payment status, it now ask the banking information which includes the AGI of either 2018 or 2019 returns. So we made a higher AGI on 2018 versus 2019 since my wife stopped working last year. Should I go ahead and put my information including the 2018 AGI so we can get our stimulus money. I was just bummed out that our 2019 would have qualify us for the full amount of the stimulus money compared to our 2018 return. Please advise.

There is nothing you can do right now ... you have technically filed a 2019 return so it is unknown if that will be used to determine the stimulus payment or not ... there is no information on such things and I doubt the IRS even knows ... they are punting right now and making things up as they go.

What you WILL need to do is file an amended return since you messed up in your haste to get the stimulus check and filed a 2019 return  ... not sure how you possibly missed the 4 separate screens yelling at you to not file this if you needed to file a real 2019 return.  Expect the IRS to take 4 months or more to process that amendment after you MAIL it in.

To file an amended return, as a best practice, I recommend that you first obtain a copy of your IRS transcript here: IRS Transcripts to verify that your return contains only the 0s.

Your transcript should be available approximately 4-6 weeks after you submitted your non-filer submission.

Once you have this information, you can then prepare your amended tax return.  If you used the TurboTax site to submit your return, you will be able to use your TurboTax account that you created to work through your amended return.

And shen checking the GET MY PAYMENT site ... try the 2018 & 2019 information and see if either will get you a result ... it may not until the incorrect 2019 return you filed "accidentally" is processed ... nothing you can do not to stop the wheel from turning no matter what you may hope.

Thank you. Should I just go ahead and fill out my banking information for the direct deposit of my stimulus check since IRS is asking it if I go to the check my payment portal? Should I put the 2018 AGI since I don’t have the choice to put my 2019 AGI because IRS has been rejecting it. Wonder what will happen since our AGI for 2019 is much lower than my 2018 which is higher. Will we get a prorated credit/refund when we file our income tax for 2020 next year?

Should I just go ahead and fill out my banking information for the direct deposit of my stimulus check since IRS is asking it if I go to the check my payment portal?  Yes if you did not do so on the already filed 2019 return.

Should I put the 2018 AGI since I don’t have the choice to put my 2019 AGI because IRS has been rejecting it.  Use what works ... either the 2018 or the current 2019 (which is $1) ... whatever works.

Wonder what will happen since our AGI for 2019 is much lower than my 2018 which is higher. Will we get a prorated credit/refund when we file our income tax for 2020 next year?  It is currently unknown what the IRS will do when you mail in the amended 2019 return.  Current consensus is you will not get any extra stimulus payment this year if the amount you get was limited by the 2018 income.  Instead there will be a reconciliation on the 2020 return that will use the 2020 income NOT the 2019.

If I put the 2019 AGI of $1 it ask me whether I got a refund or owed? Not sure what to put there. Thank you for responding with my questions. I know I messed up my tax this year.

That's what I had to do. I had to input my 2018 agi.  Within the next day or two, it finally showed I qualified for something and it would be deposited into the account info I gave. Now just waiting for deposit.

You said you made the same mistake. So does that mean once you pressed "start over" it deleted your filing at the IRS ? I'm trying to file online my taxes and it won't allow me. I did what you said in the non-filer section. Did you file normally online afterwards or did you mail in your taxes?

Many thanks!

Pressing delete will NOT remove an already filed return with the IRS ... nothing can undo an accepted return.

Please help! Accidentally submitted a Non-Filer form

You can't file online once you made mistake of filling in the non filers. I tried submitting my taxes in turbo tax after doing non filers and it won't let me. I HAD TO pay to try and file and it won't let me but I don't know how to get my money back. I paid for federal and state and couldn't file... But still had to pay.

I now have to submit a 1040x by paper.

Same here - found out the hard way. They should offer a refunds if your taxes won't go through. Oh well. Live and learn. Hopefully things will get sorted for us all. Good luck!
