New to Turbo Tax - Can I skip around?

I am very new to TurboTax...  I would normally do kind of sections of my taxes, and then put them all together at the end.  I have stock market sales, and to me, that is the hardest.  I would like to enter all my stock market stuff first, and get done with that.  Is there some way to skip to a stock market section?  Right now, I have started entering the very basic information on my husband.  Is there some way to skip around??  TurboTax has not even asked for my information yet (I am the wife, we file jointly).  Did I miss something?  It not even asked if we file jointly, I think.  Thanks for any tips.

Yes to just about everything.

First, you should complete the entry of both your husband's and the rest of your families information.  This will help with assigning forms and amounts to each person.

It sound like you want to focus on stock transactions.

To post investments:

  1. Sign into TurboTax
  2. Select Work on other (Income/Deductions)
  3. There is a Sidebar to the left
  4. Under Federal
  5. Select Wages & Income
  6. This will give a list of income options for you to choose from.
  7. Scroll down to Investments and Savings (1099-B, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-K, Crypto) - Select it
  8. Depending on what you've done you may see different screens
  9. If you've already entered some transactions you can Add investments
    1. You may see Let's import your tax info
    2. Or you can choose  [Enter a different way]  I suggest you use this
  10. You will se a panel of 5 boxes
  11. Select the top right Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds - Continue
  12. Now enter Which bank or brokerage is on your 1099‑B? - Continue
  13. Answer the 4 questions - Continue
  14. Select either Sales Section Totals or One by One Continue
  15. Follow the interview.

So, can I skip to "Donations" in the same way?  And I have a form 5498 for my IRA Contributions...  Can I skip to there somehow?  Thanks for your help.  I am a new TurboTax user, but I love it so far.

Again I can say yes.

To do donations:

Start out the same way.

  1. Sign into TurboTax
  2. Select Work on other (Income/Deductions)
  3. There is a Sidebar to the left
  4. Under Federal
  5. Select Deductions & Credits
  6. Scroll down to Charitable Donations (Clothes and other items, money, miles driven, stock)
  7. Follow the interview

Now I'm going to show you a trick for getting around in TurboTax.

In the sidebar on the left

  1. Select Tax Tools
  2. On the drop-down select Tools
  3. There will be 4 green boxes
  4. Select Topics Search (top left)
  5. Type the form number or topic. 5498
  6. The 5498 does not have to be included on your tax return.

You can use this feature to find most forms and data entry positions.
