Are you using the desktop software both last year and this year? Windows or Mac version?
Can you open the *.tax2020 data file in your 2020 desktop software to verify that it is your completed 2020 return as filed last year?
Are you sure you are using the final *.tax2020 data file that you used to prepare and file your finalized return last year? Search your entire computer system including external storage, if applicable, to see if you have any more *.tax2020 data files.
I had to replace my computer this year. Fortunately I still have my old computer, so I kooked it up, start TurboTax2020, whic was able to open the tax2020 file (which was done BTW). I saved it again, copied over to my new machine. It is able to import the data from the new saved copy of the tax2020 file. Not sure why it failed before but it was very concerning. Thanks

Congrats! That is indeed weird, and I can't explain it. But I'm glad a new instance of the *.tax2020 file allowed you to complete the transfer process into your new 2021 return.
