The exact same thing happened to us (baby born in November, received refund in February). Please let us know what you find out!
Yes my return shows on line (13a) of my return $500 for the child tax credit, for having a dependent...
My wife and I filed jointly. We have 1 child. We received the $2400 for us, but we did not receive the $500 for our child. How do we get the $500 for our child?
Forget 13A. Got to page 1 of your return. Then go to the Dependents section where it lists your kids name. In section 4 of the Dependents section, what box is checked?
I see what your saying about not checking the āchild credit boxā. Mine checked the box next to it saying itās the ācredit for other dependentsā which is new this year I believe but also means a qualifying dependent. This could be the issue. Anyone else have this issue? I just walked through the TurboTax cues and wonder why it checked that box instead? Not surprised
I had the same issue, just got my check and instead of the 3400 we only got 2900 for filing married with 2 dependents and were way below the 150000
Is there a way to get the $500 per kid if the child tax credit box was not checked on your tax returns?
My husband and I filed married joint and we are under $150,000. We have 2 kids ages 12 and 15. We only received $2400. My in-laws received $3900, they have 3 kids. I donāt understand why we didnāt get the money for our kids. There is no way to find out.
This is THE reason you didnt get the $500. I just amended my taxes in TT and selected that my kid lived with me the whole year. Once I did that it gave me extra refund money and now shows the Child Tax Credit box checked off...and someday in a thousand years from now I'll get my $500 from this stimulus check.
No I had no dependents. Iām over the $75K threshold. Calculators predict $604. Not $56
Although grateful for any money that I wasnāt expecting, I continue to get screwed and would be on the streets with 4 kids if it wasnāt for the other laws in place to protect me from eviction. Iām a single mom, no child support and 3 out of 4 children who qualify. I received $1700 today instead of $2700 and I STILL have not received my tax refund that I depend on to make it through the year when I filed on February 5!!! Just to clarify, I only make $20K a year with no debts owed to IRS, or anyone for that matter, and the qualifying kids are 12, 8 and the youngest born in Sept 2019. Iām fortunate to work for an āessential businessā but that alone doesnāt cover my monthly bills. I need info and canāt get it anywhere. HELP!!!
Should be $604 not $56
I had filed 2019 and my 2019 income would qualify me for $2,400. The 2019 return was received by IRS because I already got my refund. However for the stimulus IRS took the 2018 income, which got me $1,300. Will IRS adjust for taking the 2018 income which was higher ?
Maybe thatās what happened, the kid only lived with us since September so he didnāt live with us the whole year. So thatās the only way to fix it?
Not to get too personal, but my question to you would be why are you saying the kid only loved with you since Sept...is it because it was a newborn that was born in Sept? If so, go back and amend you taxes and select the answer that's says the child lived with you the whole year. If the kid lived with you since Sept for another reason, then I'm not sure what your options are.
