My return was rejected due to FED_Taxable_Inherited_IRA but I did not inherit an IRA.

I filed again about one hour ago, and this time my Federal return was accepted almost immediately. I updated the software this evening, and then used the step-by-step process to go over the IRA section again, but I did not delete or change anything the way some other people on this thread did. And the new form 8606 was identical to the old version, so I do not think that anything in my file is different then last Friday, when it was rejected. Anyway, the software glitch was fixed in about 6 days.

Thank you to everyone on this thread, without your comments I would have assumed that it was just my problem, and no idea how to fix it.

My return was rejected due to FED_Taxable_Inherited_IRA but I did not inherit an IRA.

So was mine.  Twice.  I do not have an inherited IRA.   Two possible reasons: five years ago I transferred everything out of Fidelity then in Sept I got a statement from them,   they sent we a check for $4.96 and later a 1099R .   The other possible problem is many years ago I made non-deductible contributions to an IRA.  You keep track of them and file form 8606 every year and get a bit of a credit.  But, form 8606 is also used for inherited IRAs, so on my second attempt to fix whatever is the problem,  I removed that form.  So we shall see,

I have the downloaded Mac Premier version and just submitted after 2 previous failed submissions. It was finally accepted. When I opened TurboTax I allowed it to download and apply the update. I then went back through and re checked the 1099r entries, which were correct. I also went back through the 8606 questions and verified I answered everything correct, which it was. I don’t believe any of the questions were changed or added. I didn’t have to delete any forms, such as the 1099r or the 8606. It appears that all that was needed was the update. My wife and I both did backdoor Roth’s. Good luck to everyone.

I just redid mine now and it was accepted by IRS 36 minutes after being submitted and first receiving the "in progress email." I had downloaded the updates earlier in the day -- I have the CD version of TT Deluxe downloaded onto a Mac. I specifically went back through double checking that the 1099-Rs were filled in right (I had done the download feature from Fidelity that populates it for you) and then went to the retirement funds section and redid the questions related to 8606 form just to be safe.  The 8606 form did come out different this time. (It's very possible I made a mistake the first time answering these, I can't swear I didn't -- but I know for sure I did not answer yes to inherited IRA)  More lines were filled in that were not filled in before.  I too had the backdoor IRA.  Such a relief getting this done.  Going to wait until later to resubmit state just in case something happens in next 48 hours.  You never know!

Yes, I just replied on this.  When I first filed I said my distribution was not an RMD, since they were cancelled for 2020.   So I tried to fix the return by saying my small distribution was an RMD.   But I did leave in that I did not have to take an RMD for 2020.   IRS refused to accept again because of an inherited IRA, which I've never had.    So now I removed the Form 8606, which I file every year.

They are also updating Form 8606, which has a bit on inherited IRAs, plus other things.  The IRS has not released the update.

I filed online, after 2 rejections, I resubmitted this evening after deleting the 1099-R for the IRA conversion to roth IRA and re-entered all numbers manually, I finally got my federal return accepted!

My return was rejected due to FED_Taxable_Inherited_IRA but I did not inherit an IRA.

My state South Carolina rejected because the Federal was rejected.  Which makes sense.   Happy to know lots of folks have the same problem and it's not just me

Finally, with the fourth time it worked (Federal only! waiting for State) All I did was to delete the IRA information and re-import 1099R info and go through the questions again. The refund amounts or the 8606 forms didnt change at all for me. It looked everything same as before. not sure what was going on behind the scenes to cause the earlier three rejections. Now I can ross this one from the list.

I just refiled again.

But the audacity of Turbotax. They asked me to pay again for CA state. After an hour and 4 different agents, I got the self service link to request refund. How could they not know this was a software issue on their end?

Awaiting the results of the LAST TIME I shall be filing using turbotax.

In case anyone else needs to request a refund on extra charge:

Resubmitted with no changes and IRS accepted within 30 minutes!

Good news for me.
"Your federal tax return was accepted by the IRS."

I opened TT Premier, got the update today, restarted.

Then I opened my previously completed form. I went to the 1099-R's and opened them (there were two, me and spouse). Advanced thru the topics again, cut-and-paste one number in each form, thinking maybe it might trigger a recalc (not sure if that was necessary)

did federal review, passed again

resubmitted, and after a while I got the above "accepted" message in my email.

the two IRA distributuions were rollovers, and I had previously gotten the error everyone saw, mentioning inherited IRA when I had no inherited IRA.

So TT fixed something that worked for me.
Good luck everyone else.

Just wanted to let you guys -- I resubmitted today and it was accepted after about 1.5hr. Used PC/premier. It was automatically updated. No change in any numbers but I just clicked through the IRA section just to be sure before refiling.
