My return got rejected 4 times, even though I fixed the action items. It was always correct when I answered the question (the 2019 AGI) but then it continues to reject it

I just got an email saying my federal return was accepted after replacing  a zero as the AGI about an hour ago.. I already paid $25 last night for my state tax which was also rejected. Now how can I resend to the state without being charged again?

Since the e-filed state return was rejected and you paid the state e-file fee, you should be able e-file the state tax return again without charge using the desktop editions.

Same thing happened to me. It was rejected for non-matching AGI first time for my husband. TurboTax rep told me to enter zero and re-submit. Rejected again, except this time it was me who had a non-matching AGI from 2019. We file jointly, so go figure. So, I entered zero and then it was accepted. I'm still waiting on the State acceptance status. I think what may have happened was I did use Turbo last year but mailed in the Fed and e-filed the State. I know the IRS has the correct AGI for 2019 because we had already downloaded an IRS account transcript earlier this year and the AGI on it was exactly what Turbo had for that year. The only thing I can surmise is that the IRS' e-File database is not in sync with whatever IRS database was used to pull the account transcript.

Cocoa1215, I agree with your theory about the IRS data bases possibly being out of synch. That's a reasonable explanation for why our 2019 tax transcript shows an AGI, but the e-file wouldn't match until we used a zero.

After exhaustive research, I think the e-file rejection problem is at the IRS level. (Sorry for my frustration, TT.)

Solution: Using a zero for AGI worked for me. Since this AGI input is just for identity verification, it has no bearing on my tax return but allowed me to e-file without being rejected.

Here's a possible reason why some people need to enter a zero instead of their actual AGI: Even if the IRS has your 2019 AGI on record (which you see on an online tax transcript), if there were any processing delays for your 2019 return (such as a missing form that bumped the return out of its original processing stream, a mailed item, a late filing, or a delay on the IRS end, etc.) the record of your AGI and your 2019 filing might not be in synch.

Thanks for the good information.  I reset my AGI to Zero, and the return went through.

I am also adding my post to the list of frustrated TT members who are getting their returns rejected repeatedly with the same response each time.  I followed all of the suggested steps including getting my 2019 Transcript which had the very same AGI as the one THE COMPUTER put into my 2020 return from 2019!  I will now file my returns by mail but I would appreciate a refund of my $25.00 State Filing Fee.
Maybe next year I'll try a new Tax Software as well. ☹️

I spoke with a very polite lady at the IRS because I was having the same issue. She made two suggestions:

1. Use 0 as my AGI or

2. Go back to my 2018 AGI

I just tried the 0 AGI and will have to see if it works. Should that solve my problem, I'll post an update.

This is a follow up to my previous post...literally less than 30 minutes ago.

Changing my 2019 AGI to 0 (not 0.00) worked. I received notice from the TurboTax/IRS almost immediately, that my return was accepted.

In addition, my wait time using the IRS help desk was actually less than 15 minutes. I was expecting a HUGE wait.

Same here, several unsuccessful attempts until I put AGI zero, then it went through.

I want to ask a similar question.  My return  was rejected saying AGI for 2019 was incorrect.  It was correct .  Attempted IRS and state 3-4 times.  I had paid Tutbo $30 for state filing and it was never used.  Turbo owes me $30 or a $30 credit on 2021 tax kit.

Have you received your tax return after you input "$0.00" as your AGI. I am looking for leads before I file electronically. Thanks 👍

Same problem - 2nd year in a row.  I've never needed Spouse AGI or IP PIN until now.  We fime FMJ.  What is happening.  If I have to file by hard copy each year perhaps other tax services can solve my problem.

I had the same problem and it looks like I am going to have to drive to the post office and mail a return, thus delaying the refund and risking the check being stolen.

I paid for deluxe to file 3 returns and ended up getting one filed.

I can’t find a number to talk to anyone.
