My federal got rejected with Reject Code IND-517-02. So I amended my son's taxes and mark box saying he can be claimed as a dependent. I still can't fill my taxes.

The IP Pin will change each and every year. This is an Identity Protection Pin.

You can get an Identity Protection pin here, or if you lost your IP PIN, you can go here to Retrieve IP PIN.

How long does it take to get the IP PIN? Can you get it online, or does it take weeks to get mailed to you?

Hi - thank you for your answer. Did you get the IP PIN for just you? Or also your daughter and spouse?

I got an IP Pin only for myself. Not my daughter or spouse. My return was accepted. Thanks to everyone for the help!

Since you already amended your son's return, you now need to submit your taxes and include an IP PIN for your son.  Visit Get an identity protection PIN (IP PIN) for further information.

Once you get his IP PIN, include it in your return and e-file it.

In my experience, I did not need IP PIN for my daughter. Just my IP PIN was sufficient.

I also submitted amendment for daughter’s return prior to my return which I am not sure if it helped.

Thanks for sharing. Had the same scenario and did the same steps. Came here looking for answers and adding the ip pin for just myself to turbotax desktop and resubmitting did the trick.

This worked for me.  Finding where to put the Identity Protection PIN was hard.  I'm on desktop software (Windows).  Click on Federal Taxes and "Other Tax Situations" and under the "Other Return Info", you find a place to put the PIN.

There seems to be some confusion in earlier comments in this thread as to who needs to get the IP PIN in a similar situation.   With this type of rejection of a parent's return caused by one's dependent claiming himself/herself on their return, only the primary taxpayer (the first-listed filer) on the parents' rejected return needs to get an IP PIN in order to efile.   A spouse (if applicable and filing jointly) and dependents themselves do not need to get an IP PIN, unless they were previously required to have and use one for some other reason.    The IRS in the article below says:

" The taxpayer listed first on an e-filed tax return claiming dependents can provide their current year IP PIN when they file. If they do, the return will still be accepted.  The spouse (if married filing jointly) and the dependents on the tax return don’t need to provide an IP PIN if they don’t have one."

The dependent still has to file an amended return to state that he/she can and is being claimed by someone on another return.
