Reject code IND-517 indicates a dependent listed on your return has already been claimed on another return as either the taxpayer or the spouse.
To correct your return:
Even though you have amended your son's return, his Social Security number has already been "used" by the e-file system as primary on another return. Therefore, you will need to change your filing method to "mail", print the return, sign it, attach copies of W2s or other documents showing any tax withholding and mail it to the address provided on the TurboTax instruction sheet.
I had the same issue as you. I submitted my daughter's taxes and forgot to check the box that says, "someone else can claim you as a dependent". When I submitted my tax return through Turbot Tax e-file it was rejected with code IND-517-02. I amended hers and resubmitted it, it was accepted by IRS. I then resubmitted mine and it was again rejected. I spoke with someone at IRS they said the system doesn't look at any amended returns. She said I could possibly use the IP PIN and resubmit it. I looked back at Turbo Tax (desktop version) and one of the sections/notifications when I was going back to the "help me fix" sections, it said if I still wanted to submit my return through e-file anyway after the rejection, to log into my account at IRS and request an IP PIN. I used this PIN and entered it in the personal "other" section in Turbo Tax. I did that, resubmitted it and both federal and state were accepted. I did not have to mail them. Yay!
I am exactly on the same boat as you were. My son amended his return a week ago. I gave it a week to refile. Still the same rejection. I got me an IP PIN. It still rejected me. How long since the amendment did IRS accepted your return?

Amending their tax return will not allow you to e-file your tax return, not matter how long you wait. You will have to print and mail your tax return including him as a dependent on your return.
@Gumpy67 Did you get and IP PIN for yourself or for your daughter or both?
You would get an IP PIN for yourself, so you can Efile. Here's How to Get an IP PIN.
I got an IP PIN and applied it accordingly. Still rejected. Thanks.
If your return rejected because one of your dependents claimed themselves on their return. You will need to do 2 things:
If you wish to get an IP PIN for your dependent, visit Get an identity protection PIN (IP PIN). Then resubmit your return.
I decided to file by paper. I included a letter explaining briefly my situation with my signature. And copies of my W2. I don't want to rush when the deadline is nearer. Thank you, folks and wish me luck!
Thanks also to LeteciaF1. This should work now.
Did you start with Turbo Tax online, then purchase desktop to fix this? I have this situation now and am trying to figure out how to proceed. My child's return has been corrected but I cannot get my returns to be accepted, both federal and state.
@msl111271 Even after amending the tax return, you will not be able to e-file your return since the IRS still has the Social Security number from the filed return in their database.
You can only print and mail your tax return.
