No you can e-file, the IRS uses the AGI from either an e-filed return or a paper filed return.
The IRS may not have your 2020 AGI in their database.
Enter a 0 (zero) for the 2020 AGI and e-file the tax return again.
tried "0" for AGI but still was rejected. The rejecting reason is this...
IND-031-04 - The primary taxpayer's AGI or Self-select PIN from last year does not match IRS records. So, apparently this self-select PIN could be the issue. I did 2020 return by paper/ink and mailed it. Certainly did not involved a PIN. Possibly the year before my CPA had a PIN for his efile then. It seems I have no choice but to mail in the return.
If your tax return is constantly getting rejected due to your AGI, you will need to print and mail your tax return. You can follow the directions in this TurboTax FAQ to do so.
As some suggested, I entered "zero" in AGI box and attempted efile but was rejected again. From what I read online user comments, efilings rejected for the the same reason of AGI not agree to prior year and/or incorrect pin no. apparently a common problem. Shouldn't Turbo tax do something to address that problem or disclose on Turbo website that could be a problem?
Secondly, Turbo tax did not specify in the process of entering the data for turbo tax premier that when an user click to print, the "BACK" option that was always presented throughout the whole process now disappears. If I was alert to the fact along the way, I would have never click print without scrutinize the numbers several more times. Now I am unable to go back to correct an substantially understated medical expense item. Can't get any live help to find out how to go back to correct. I did call [phone number removed] as was suggested but when the live person finally came on the phone after waiting 30 min., she said she needed to check something and then my line went dead after waiting sometime. I am disillusioned to say the least. Can't recommend Turbo Tax to anyone at this point.
