Missing 2021 Form 1116

So my question again .. why is TurboTax so late getting this done this year?? Very frustrating.

turbo tax is late this year, IMO, because they no longer care about customers.  IMO, they have lost their way.  This once great company now has  mediocre customer support and less than gold-standard service/software.  Many long-term customers, including myself (15+ years) will test other solutions to see if they make more  sense going forward ….. H&RBlock is rated very highly on a lot of websites…. Essentially equal to TT.  I, for one, will be buying a copy of their software and re-entering my 2021 data with them.  If I like the software, I may well switch.

@mcgaley I purchased Block for comparison sake.  It is easy to use.  The interface is nice and it does everything TT does.  I got through it and the results were essentially the same as TT.  It handled form 1116; however, there is no 1116B in their forms nor is it even listed on their website.  After an hour on hold a Block rep told be it would handle 1116 and 1116B for efile.  I don't think she really had a clue.  Unless they are planning an update, I don't see how Block will handle this for efile.  Given all the issues and rejections people are experiencing, I may decide to just forgo the credit and handle it later with an amendment.

@johnosen35 Thanks for the thumbs up.  I found the error and now the difference is just $84.  I think it has something to do with how each handles agi when they apply the formula to determine the percentage that you actually get back..  I'm not going to worry about the difference.  Everything else was identical between the two.  Taking out the foreign tax credit and the refund was exactly the same to the dollar.  Still haven't decided what to do about filing.  Very aggravating.

I have to agree after 20 plus years this is the worst experience I have ever had with TurboTax. And I paid the the most expensive version to be able to handle self employment and investments. I think they have lost a lot of talent. And speaking with two TurboTax tax experts that both said the calculations were correct. The first was underpaying by $10k. The second was overpaying by $8k. The only change was a February update to the program. Funny!!

That's great news, but to be honest I'm a little confused. I heard back from the Intuit Office of the President today that they were shooting for a 3/31 release for Schedule B with an accommodation for a PDF attachment for efiling purposes. I really wish we could get the straight story from someone. I have used TurboTax for over 20 years personally and when I had my own business. This is a bit crazy. To be prepared for TurboTax dropping the ball (again), I put my return into OLT and it matched exactly to TT. So I will wait a few days and if TT does not come through, I will efile with OLT, which can handle Schedule B for 1116. Thanks to everyone out there for keeping the pressure on Intuit.

Good to know. In my case, OLT taxes are basically done but not filed yet. There is a small difference between TT and OLT in the 1116 credit but since I was not able to have the TT-prepared forms (I am using the online version and did not pay anything yet), I do not know what caused it. I do not file before Sunday, so I can decide later, assuming TT does not drop the ball. 

Overall, both TT and OLT are very different but both have qualities:

TT has a better interview process (better than TaxAct and HR too) and points you to some possible deductions and credits you can benefit from.

OLT is much more crude, but gives you more control. Using OLT I had to go to the forms instructions more frequently.

I am sad that TT has these problems this year. It also has another problem with depreciation that showed an "UNDER CONSTRUCTION PAGE" that apparently can be prevented if you start your return over from scratch. The American tax code is insane and TT does a good job of driving the filer through this wild territory. It is sad that this year we had so many hiccups. I hope they perform better next year.

While I have updated forms regularly, Form 1116 is still unavailable as of this date 3/9/2022 even though it says that the form is available.  Is this a bug?  How do I get it resolved?

It was not me that said Form 111s Schedule B "should be available on 03/17/2022." I have no idea when or even if the form will ever be available from TT.  This will be my last year using TT if Intuit does not fix the problem before the filing deadline.  Again, I was quoted in someone else's post but it was NOT me that specified a date the form would be available in TT.

The latest TurboTax update for forms release date has schedule B coming out in paper 3/12/22 and for efile 3/13/22. Cross your fingers. 

That still doesn’t solve the incorrect calculation for self employed health insurance.

@johnosen35 Where did you see 3/12 & 3/13?  The poster before you  says 3/10 & 3/11 for 1116B availability & efiling.  The link he provided also showed those dates
