After a screen-share session with a TT rep, I got the program running. I had just updated to Big Sur 11.1 -- maybe that was the fix. But mainly, I was shown that I was trying to install the program incorrectly, dragging the TT icon to the App folder on the task bar rather than just straight across to the App folder icon.
Turns out that the problem was the English language preference I had on my Mac. When I changed it to "US English", Turbo Tax launched correctly. I actually got an error message when I first tried to launchTT but didn't think it was an issue. Duh? it was.
Everyone, please check you Mac language preference.
This is not quite true. Actually my 2020 crashed during its (probably 3rd) updates. Then 2020 could not be used (flashing "update..." window, then quit) At the same time, 2019 was also not usable.
Yes, this is a more accurate statement. I was using TT2020 with no issue until the last series of updates and then the program crashed and now all I get when I try to open TT is the flashing update screen for a couple of seconds and then the program closes. The problem must be in the latest update,
My language preference was not the issue. I think the problem lies in the last series of updates from TT
I was told today (2-7-21) that they think the problem is that Big Sur has 2 hard drives - Mac HD and Mac HD-Data. They have yet to figure out a solution. I got inpatient and started to check out HR Block and some folks also reported issues running it on Big Sur
I had the identical problem after updating on 2-5-21. The tech help folks think it has something to do with the fact that Big Sur has 2 hard drives. My case is still open - no solution identified as yet. Argh!!
I have been following this link for a week and trying to get TT2020 to run on my iMac. First had to upgrade from High Sierra. Unfortunately went to Big Sur, the latest 11.2. Bit Mistake. It is a Big Problem for a number of my other systems now. After a long conversation with Support at TT, it was advised that the only viable solution now is to go back to Mojave. Will someone let intuit and Apple know that they have, and are waisting a lot of valuable time of their customers.
Ugh! This sucks so bad!!
Many of us, included me, found that after we had upgraded to Big Sur, if we uninstalled our download of TT from the fall, and removed all associated files from our hard drives, and then downloaded TT20 again (it was by this time a different version that we'd downloaded in the fall), and installed it, it worked fine.
The instructions for deleting the associated files are earlier in this thread. I will just say that after following those instructions, it was a bit of a problem to import my TT19 files into TT20, but I figured it out eventually.
Good luck! All is not lost!!
@mikwB61 See this link here for assistance with Big Sur.
I gave up. Applications on Mac should just work. No more waisting my time. I requested a refund. Hope TT honors their guaranty.
I have left a couple of comments regarding the problems with TT2020 and macOS Big Sur, 11.1 and 11.2. First there have been several replies from TurboTax technical staff with instruction on how to get TT2020 to run on Big Sur. That is great. Also, my one phone conversation with a TT tech support staff showed they were working on getting things to run. However, I am also having problems with a number of other application running under BS, so I will not be trying any of the TT Staff suggestion. I will be going back to Mojave, macOS 10.14, which appears to be working ok for TT and other applications. So, for the record, I appreciate the TurboTax staff efforts.
TT customer service blamed Apple.... Called Apple they blamed TT........ well &*#$ I guess Ill beat at it with a hammer until it succumbs.
I got it to work. (Big Suhr 11.2)
1. Open Finder
2. Hold option and click on Go.
3. Select Library (while holding option)
Then go through all the files shown here.
If you don't have the file in the list don't worry about it.
I had tried this many times without using the option key and it wouldn't show me any files that were named com.intuitXXX, when I held the option key it showed them. I deleted them and reinstalled and it works now.
This did work! I had tried this before didn't know to hold down the Option key. I removed the files and reinstalled TT and is now works on my iMac running Big Sur 11.2.
