I teach adult education classes to people who do not have a high school diploma. Can I deduct my expenses as K-12 unreimbursed teacher's expenses? I teach classes for a community college, one on Zoom and one located in a county detention center.

You're an eligible educator if, for the tax year you're a kindergarten through grade 12 teacher, instructor, counselor, principal or aide for at least 900 hours a school year in a school that provides elementary or secondary education as determined under state law.
No, the IRS definition for a teacher is:
"You're an eligible educator if, for the tax year you're a kindergarten through grade 12 teacher, instructor, counselor, principal or aide for at least 900 hours a school year in a school that provides elementary or secondary education as determined under state law."
THANK YOU for the work you do.
Sadly you do not appear to qualify for the deduction as it does not apply to "post-secondary education."
Off topic: you might get a bite or two at covering those expenses from self-selected taxpayers, if you tell your story at DonorsChoose.org. Cheers!
Thanks. I wouldn't qualify on the hours even if they accepted teaching for the GED as within the K-12 frame.
