No, if you file by mail, you have to print out the return, sign and date the return and mail it yourself to the IRS address indicated on the cover page.
“Ready to mail” means that your tax return has not been filed. Either you could not e-file for some reason , or you chose to file by mail. OR if you really did already mail your return, the software does not have any way to know that you put your return in an envelope and took it to a mailbox, so it will always say “ready to mail” in your online account.
TurboTax does not mail your return for you. You have to print it, sign it, and mail it yourself. When you mail a tax return, you need to sign it where it says "Sign Here" and write in the date you signed it by the word "Date". Attach copies of your W-2 and any other documents that show taxes withheld to the left side of the papers where it says "Attach Forms..."
When you print your return, it will print with filing instructions that tell you where to mail it. Pay careful attention to the address you mail your return to —federal and state returns do not get mailed to the same place.
It is not required, but is a good idea, to use a mailing service that will track your return or provide you with a receipt showing that the IRS got it--such as Fedex, UPS, or certified mail. It will take about 4 weeks and then you can track the status of your return at the IRS website.
You can print your return by following the instructions below
Sign in to your account using exactly the same account and user ID that you used to prepare your return.
On the bottom of the screen find Your tax returns & documents and click on Show. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

To change to e-filing:
I filed on March 13. I sent my w2s 2 weeks prior to the date I filed for the free stimulus check because I only received the very first one. It’s now June my status says printed that happened last week. When I go on irs.gov it still says unavailable. I called you guys they told me I filed correctly but it’s a 4 week wait plus another 6 weeks if we filed by mail.. Now like I said before it’s now June I still have yet to receive any info when I ask the bot on the app it says I didn’t file . Can someone please help me
Help with what exactly? The IRS takes a long time to process paper returns, and TT cannot speed that up. And the status will stay the same on TT, since the program has no way of knowing that you actually filed by mail.
Help with figuring out when will I receive the 600$ and no one asked for a speed up I asked for help a simple question. You guys give a choice to e file or file by mail ... So if we file by mail why we don’t get any type of info no update. Simply left in the dust . like I said I filed in March it’s now June going on august soon so absolutely no one can answer that simple question ? When I spoke to a tt representative they told me 4 weeks and then another 6 now do the math still no info is all I’m saying? Since you wanna respond but thanks for the help
When you print and mail your return the only update you get if they received it is if you got a tracking number from the post office when you mailed it. And you mailed federal and state in separate envelopes to different places, right?
Mail returns will take a long time to process. After 4 weeks you can start checking IRS Where’s My Refund

“The IRS is now opening mail within normal timeframes. The IRS has also made significant progress in processing prior year returns. As of May 15, 2021, we had 300,000 individual tax returns received prior to 2021 in the processing pipeline. Including current year returns, as of May 15, 2021, we had 16.4 million unprocessed individual returns in the pipeline……”
