I'm still a little confused. If I want to amend my 2018 return to include the credit for alternative fuel charging on form 8911, do I delete the form on the 2018 version of TurboTax or do I file the amended return using the 2019 version?
If I delete the existing 8911 form, how do I use the current version of form 8911? If I use the 2019 TurboTax, the first question it asks is if I'm amending the 2019 tax return, which I am not trying to do.
How should I proceed?
You amend the 2018 tax return using the procedure in this TurboTax support FAQ - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/amending/help/how-do-i-amend-a-return-in-turbotax/01/27579
However, the 2018 software has not yet been updated with the Tax Extenders for 2018. See this TurboTax support FAQ for the 2018 software and the Tax Extenders - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-topics/help/2018-extenders-passed-under-taxpayer-certainty-and...
I will wait for the May Extender. Thank you
TurboTax has completely dropped the ball on this. They are slow, careless, and uninformed. Either you wait until May (good luck - it was supposed to be done in March) or do it manually.
In TT 2018, file an amended return. Download and fill out an 8911 manually and then go into TT 2018 and manually fill out the 8911 (even though the lines do not show the actual description, you can right click on the spaces to enter numbers and manually type in numbers. The calculation will be correct.
Then print out the amended return and replace the faulty 8911 with your manually completed 8911.
TurboTax refuses to honor my request for a refund even though they claim to have a guarantee of a refund if the software does not calculate your taxes correctly. It is certainly not calculating mine correctly.
This may be the last straw and I am open to suggestions for switching after over two decades of using TurboTax. They have gotten lax, arrogant, and expensive.
