It keeps rejecting my return

If your return keeps getting rejected, check your email or "Fix my return" in your TurboTax program for the specific error code. It usually is due to data mismatches (names/SSNs), the wrong prior-year Adjusted Gross Income figure or you have dependents that were claimed by someone else. You can fix the error, re-submit your tax return, or print and file by mail if your rejections continue.  How do I file my return by mail? 

 

Common reasons for rejections:

 

  • Make sure that you are using your 2024 Adjusted Gross Income from your original  (not amended if you filed an amended return) 2024 tax return (Line 11) If you filed late last year, it may be $0 or $1.
  • Make sure that all names, dates of birth, and Social Security Numbers match exactly what is on the persons Social Security Card, especially for your dependents.
  • Your dependent was claimed on someone else tax return You would have to paper file if this is the case.
     

What you can do:

 

  • Check your email for a message from turbotax@intuit.com.
  • Sign in to your TurboTax account and select the "Fix my return" button.
  • Follow instructions to update any information that requires a fix and then resubmit your tax return.
  • If you get the same rejection code several times, print and mail your return using the instructions above.
