Having trouble entering my IP Pin.
When I get to the Sign Your 2021 Return page, it asks for a 5-digit PIN. The instructions say any 5-digit number will work. When I go to IRS to retrieve a PIN, it is a 6-digit number. TT will not accept a 6-digit number. Unable to get past this error

If you don't have the 5 digit self-selected PIN you created, to e-file a prior year tax return, then you will need to use the 2020 AGI from your 2020 tax return.
See this TurboTax Help Article.
Thank you for replying. AGI is also one of the selections to file electronically. It is correctly populated. TT will not allow me to proceed without the 5-digit pin. The error message I am getting back says
IND-181-01 - The Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) for the first taxpayer on your return is missing |
|
I verified I put a 5-digit number in the IP Pin field. TT says it can be any 5-digit number. below is the help from the PIN link
Choose any five numbers for your PIN (personal identification number) except all zeros. The PIN must be all numbers. Do not use letters, symbols or other characters.
This PIN serves as part of your e-file signature.
An Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) is a six-digit number that prevents someone else from filing a tax return using your Social Security number. The IP PIN is known only to you and the IRS and helps us verify your identity when you file your electronic or paper tax return. IP PINs for prior tax years won't work. You can only get IP PINs from the IRS. The IRS would have sent a letter to you explaining why this IP PIN was being issued. If you know you need an IP PIN to file your taxes and you lost your CP01A letter (or never received it), you can:
The Identity protection pin that the US government sent me is six numbers, but the filing place in Turbotax only allows five. It says I have too many digits. What do I do? My taxes got sent back and I cannot refile.
To enter a 6 digit IP PIN
Or enter ip pin in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to ip pin
