In finishing up my return, Turbotax asks me for the Adjusted Gross Income from last year's return. My AGI was a negative number last year, but parentheses aren't allowed

What tax year are you filing? If for any tax year 2022 or earlier the tax return cannot be e-filed, it can only be printed and mailed. So there is no need for your prior year AGI. In the File section of the program you should have selected to Print and Mail the return, not E-file.

In finishing up my return, Turbotax asks me for the Adjusted Gross Income from last year's return. My AGI was a negative number last year, but parentheses aren't allowed

You don't need your 2021 AGI to file 2022, it's too late to efile 2022 or prior. You have to print and mail it. And it's too early to file 2023.
