Importing new/corrected 1099 wipes out/deletes other previous downloads from other accounts in the same brokerage

I am using TT desktop. I am importing data from multiple accounts with Fidelity. Connection and download this year are working fine except... If I try to only import the data from one account (for example specific account tax 1099 just available or corrected) by selecting only the new file to import in the drop down, all the previous download information is lost after the download is completed. I have to select all the accounts again to redownload. The problem is that will then overwrite additional information I previously entered  for the accounts files that have not changed. Seems that I should be able to select just the new or corrected file by highlighting in the download drop box without losing the other previously imported files??

(Another example, previously downloaded 1099-b, but when I selected a single 1099 Div account to download, the previous 1099-b file downloads are lost.)

Any thoughts appreciated.

Multiple Brokerage Accounts

If you have a single broker for multiple accounts, when the selecting to add another account for the same broker:

  • Clear cookies and then search for your broker via the search bar rather than clicking the broker icon.
  • This should allow the screen to input account information and import the data.

TurboTax does have a record limitation of 10,000 individual transactions in one or more brokerage accounts.

If you hit the transaction import limit, they recommend you enter a summary of your transactions for each sales category.

Thanks - i can actually see all the accounts and drop down actually allows me to select which file to import. However if i select one new file to import (after previously importing other files), the new file is downloaded but the previous files are gone. The only option is to select all the files again including the new file. That works but you lose any additional info previously added to the earlier downloads (ie us gov’t and state interest)

I do understand the issue.

Please try this alternative.

  1. Clear cookies and
  2. Then search for your broker via the search bar rather than clicking the broker icon.

Appreciate the tip - I will try on a "new" return to avoid losing the supplemental information entered for the previously down loaded files.

I have the same problem with 2024 return.  I previously imported  1099s from a financial institution and added some data (shares basis, foreign taxes etc) . I then later imported a new 1099 from that financial institution (deselecting the prior downloaded forms) only to find that ALL the prior imports from that financial institution were deleted, along with all my adds and ONLY the selected form is now in TurboTax.  I tried the "delete cookies/history" on the browser but got the same resort. TurboTax has a serious BUG that needs to be fixed !!!! If you deselect an imported form then that form already in TurboTax is DELETED from you tax file !!!!

I have the same problem using turbotax desktop version. Basically, after I import my 1099-DIVs from Fidelity, when I go through the process to import my wife's (who has a different Fidelity account), all my previously imported and reviewed 1099-DIVs from Fidelity disappear.

Try clearing cache and cookies after the first import is complete.  When cache and cookies are cleared use the search function to find the Fidelity account instead of the icon.  Here are the instructions provided by JohnB5677 posted above:

I also tried clearing cookies and to no avail, the non-selected forms get deleted, and if you import a form twice it overwrites any changes you have made.

I have made major changes to a 1099-B and am still awaiting more forms to import from Fidelity, so this is going to be a major issue.

Any relief to fix this bug coming, or better instructions on the "clearing cookies -- for a particular browser?" because that "trick" didn't work for me.

Here's info on how to clear Cache and Cookies for various browsers.  Since the cache holds info from the previous import, it's essential to do this after each import.  Some users rename the imported files to differentiate them.

Here's more info on How to Update or Delete Imported Data

If you're using TurboTax Online, you can download a PDF of your 1099 transactions, then enter your 1099-INT/DIV info as a total manually in those sections.  Then a PDF of 1099-B transactions can be attached to your return.

Importing new/corrected 1099 wipes out/deletes other previous downloads from other accounts in the same brokerage

Thanks for the clarification and instructions to clear Cache and Cookies for the browsers.
I did finally call support and got clarification on how to actually ask my question. In this case, I am actually using the same *user account* at my financial institution, but I need to  selectively pull in the documents for different *financial accounts* as they become available.

In this case, I have already properly imported a 1099-B from one account, and am awaiting 1099-Bs from 2 other financial instruments (hence different financial accounts) to become ready.  Meanwhile, I have updated the cost-basis as needed for some 200+ entries for the existing 1099-B.

What is happening, which was a surprise to the TurboTax support, is if I import from the same *user account* but de-select the existing 1099-B, then instead of leaving my updates alone as it should, it DELETES it! (luckily, i had made a copy and was just verifying that I could do what was needed).   If I instead select the existing 1099-B, then it OVERWRITES the existing 1099-B, losing all of my 200+ changes.

In the past, and this was the expected behavior from support, it would just make another copy of the re-imported form that is easy enough to delete, but now there is now way for me to import the other forms that are yet to become available, so now i'm back to manually entering them, which could be quite time consuming as tehy also have a lot of detail that is needed....

This seems like a bug that needs to be addressed.

Same issue.  I spent hours with support and could get no help.  Two representatives were trying to help and troubleshoot but were unable to fix the problem.  One was an obviously inexperienced rep that stated "imports do not always work".  The Tier Two representative was too full of herself to listen to what I had to say and insisted that I use the online version.  When I asked to be switched to a different representative, she hung up on me.

This is disgraceful!

Imported from brokerage for 4 accounts

2 accounts had corrected forms

Cleared cache & files in browser as suggested

Imported from brokerage again (2 accounts only)

result: only those 2 accounts exist in TT,  the data for the other accounts are gone.

(Be sure to save a copy of your tax before you try to re-import! and don't save the TT file that you re-import to with the same name!)
