Same issue here. This should be fixed: it is a tax software, and this bug should have been caught during testing.
All bugs are not identified during testing. Some things get missed. But if they find it, then it can be fixed.
I am not here to argue, but the fact there is this bug shows that the case of a 1099-B with < $0.50 disallowed wash sale was not tested. It also shows they have decided to round when it is not explicitly required. I don't see the point in justifying this, especially because, being TurboTax online a web-based service, this could be addressed quite rapidly.
Guess we'll see what happens.
Thank you for your help. This worked.
The solution of going through all of the transactions and blanking out the value when it's less than 50c appears to work. The problem is that the menu navigation to do that takes ~5 minutes per transaction so it's a very time consuming process.
Hopefully, TT will come with update which fixes this bug soon. I wonder is there a place to go get the latest information.
Blanking out the field works for some entries, but not for others. I have one entry that refuses to allow a blank, or anything above zero.
When you say others what do you mean? Is it for the same disallowed washes?
I mean specifically for "wash sale loss disallowed" values. I've blanked out the values in most of the ones that were causing trouble, but there's still one entry that TurboTax continues to throw an error on, even after the value entered is blank, or $1, or 0.
Hmm, that's good to know. Just got off the phone with a rep and they told me to enter blank for any amount less than $1.00. It seems like the recommendation doesn't hold absolute true, at least not in your case. I was going to attempt it later today to see what happens.
Are you using the CD/ download software of the online service by chance?
I'm using the online version.
There's another topic with a solution for people using physical copies, but editing forms directly isn't allowed in the online version.
This error initially was very annoying but this post help me easily address the problem. Thank you!😊
I attempted this method, and can definitely say it does not work. There is no + icon that appears once you are inside the box. Also, even if you try to override the $0 amount with the actual amount, the system overrides your override and puts it back to 0. So after testing this, I can say, it's not a bug in a traditional sense because this was done by design, however it is a bug in the sense it doesn't work well with the software these other companies are using when you do the import.
