Yep I had the same conclusion.
if the AGI matches their database (not necessarily what is in the return transcript), they dont care about the filing pin.
im so glad you explained why thats the case, and that the IRS is moving away from the filing pin (too easy to create fraud).
thanks!
IRS is not moving away from the self-select PIN.
What happened is they stopped the service that let you generate a PIN at tax-filing time.
When you e-File, you can self-select a five digit PIN to use next year.
I'm sending my 4th transmission still rejected with 0's .My 2016 was late but not that late maybe june when I filed in february.
I don't quite understand you solution?
The following FAQ will provide more details on the proposed solution: AGI Rejection @radarcc2 .
But if I did truly file last yr which I did will they see that and flag it for any reason? If it's not in turbo tax questions then they won't question it at all?
No, this will not be a red flag for the IRS. The IRS has taken so long to process some returns from 2020. Some AGI's didn't get entered in time to verify for 2021. This will not create a problem if you use "0".
Well I talked with turbo tech rep last night. We tried 0 and immediately got declined but she sent me link for refund however I thought about just retrying 1 more time and select I didn't file last yr option as she had also mentioned to me. I didn't think it be that much an issue but wasn't sure. Didn't kno if actually filing and saying a didn't was a nono to them or not.
You can try to file the return and select that you did not file a return last year.
You can also go to http://irs.gov/ and get your tax transcript for last year to get the correct information.

My 2020 tax return was filed on time and was accepted before April 15. The IRS website says it was processed in May. I tried 3 times to get the IRS to accept my 2021 efile. Finally, even though my AGI was correct, I placed zero on that line and used the IP Pin given to me by the IRS. My return was finally accepted.
If you find that everything is correct on your tax return and you are still getting rejected, try using zero for the AGI.
There’s a bug with TurboTax api on filing jointly. If your return is getting rejected due to incorrect spouse AGI due to new ITIN or SSN. First, check if the previous year return’s AGI works. If it doesn’t choose the option that you got married last year (so 2021 if you are in 2022). This will give you an option of inputting spouse’s AGI separately. Choose did not file return last year. And efile. It should be accepted.
Thank you for this information. We will continue to check into this issue.
Thanks for your response. I still need assistance, as stated I have used "0" and the correct AGI and it is still rejected. I also received the refund for 2019, are you advising to still select "Did not file" for the return to be accepted?
Please advise and Thanks
Yes. If it’s a new ITIN/SSN. You choose did not file for your spouse. Essentially it’s verifying against your tax transcript. If your transcript does not have an ITIN or SSN for your spouse: you need to enter information so that it will match your transcript.
Please click here for additional assistance and information regarding your rejected return although you entered in the correct AGI.
I inserted AGI and was rejected, but the amount I put in is what is on my 1040 kfrom last year AND ON WHAT is ON THE IRS TRANSCRIPTS
