NOWHERE is the balance due you paid online be entered on the return ... it will show a blance due and this will not confuse the IRS. In the FILE tab simply choose to mail in a payment then simply don't mail another payment.
You will enter it as Estimated tax payment for 2022 in TurboTax. It will be applied to the 2022 tax calculations on the return so it will be credited to the correct year.
Thank you.
I will have an overpayment for Year 2022.
I would like this overpayment to be applied to 2023 estimated taxes (rather than refunded to me, now, by IRS). How will IRS know this from the return TurboTax prepares for me (as the return would not even show an overpayment if I followed your advice)?

The correct place for what you did is Schedule 3 Line13z.
Description:" Bal due direct pay" or "Bal due direct pay <date>" if it will fit.
sorry, as I am not using Turbotax, I can't tell you how to get to that line and enter the amount.
I think someone said it's under Other Tax Situations.
