Please explain what you mean when you refer to "my tax guy." Did the "tax guy" prepare your tax return? Or did you prepare your own return using TurboTax?
I used turbo tax. The tax person is my dad's tax accountant who I called to get some help.
I only put tax guy instead of tax person because I was running out of space.
I did the return myself using turbo tax.
@jlsosin See this TurboTax support FAQ concerning the IRS 12c letter and the Form 8962 - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-forms/got-12c-letter-irs-form-8962/L...
You will need a copy of the Form 1095-A sent to you by you state Marketplace Exchange or from healthcare.gov
Yeah, I've got that part. That is not the issue.
The issue is that I don't know some of the answers to the questions on form 8962, my fathers tax person told me that if I log into turbo tax I can get the form and it will automatically put in what I need and I can transfer the rest from 1095-A, but when I log into turbo tax and search for it, nothing comes up. So I'm stuck.
@jlsosin TurboTax completes the Form 8962 automatically after you have enter your Form 1095-A,
To enter your Form 1095-A -
Or enter 1095-a in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to 1095-a
ok. thanks. I'll see if I can figure this out! Stay tuned. 🙂
So when I log into turbo tax, it acts as though it doesn't know me. Even though i've used it for 10 years. It starts from the beginning and asks me to tell it about myself and my taxes.
There must be a way to pull up taxes that have already been done?
thanks for your help, much appreciated.
@jlsosin If this is for tax year 2022 and you are using the TurboTax online editions, follow the instructions in the support FAQ that was provided - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-forms/got-12c-letter-irs-form-8962/L...
To access your current year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
When you sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page, scroll down and click on Add a state.
This will take you back to the 2022 online tax return. Enter your Form 1095-A
2021
@jlsosin For tax year 2021 and you used the TurboTax online editions you will need to amend the 2021 tax return to enter the Form 1095-A. The program will create a completed Form 8962 which you can print out for the IRS.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-change-correct-return-a...
You have to sign onto the 2021 account using the exact same User ID and password you used to create the 2021 account.
If you cannot access the 2021 online account then use the Account Recovery process to get the User ID.
Go to this TurboTax website to start the Account Recovery process - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery/
If you are unable to get the correct User ID for the 2021 online account then click on the blue Try something else on the Account Recovery logon screen.
ok, i'm in to 2021.
there is a prompt that says Amend return. do i want that?
there is also another link that says My Docs.
I'd like to contact a turbo tax specialist to help me with this process, but I don't know how to do that.
I tried calling turbo tax one time and pretty sure I spent 2 hours going in circles but never got to a person.
@jlsosin You would want to Amend the return.
My Docs would have any items that you uploaded to TurboTax.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for My Docs - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/small-business-processes/docstm/L0VlCWX5...
I tried to Amend the return and it says I didn't file any online taxes with Turbo Tax in 2021. (Which I did, obviously). so I don't know how to do this.
I mailed them in because they were late, but I did complete them through Turbo Tax, so I don't know what it's talking about.
