I just purchased the Mac download version of TurboTax 2019 Home & Business. It will not run on Catalina as Apple cannot verify it. Is there/will there be an update?

I have the same problem.  I too just purchased and downloaded Turbo Tax Home and Business 2019 for my Mac running Catalina OS 10.15.2 but I cannot get it to install.  I successfully downloaded the .dmg file but when I dragged it into applications, it has gotten stuck on the "Preparing to copy to applications" step.  Anyone know the solution?  Otherwise I want my $90some back.

Copying the application has nothing to do with TurboTax - it is simply the built-in Mac copy function.    If that hangs then that is a Mac issue.   I suggest restarting the Mac.  If it persists then seek Mac support from Apple.

The message has nothing to do with TurboTax, it is how Apple choose to treat applications not purchased from the Apple Store - all non Apple software will get that message with OSX 10.15 (Catalina).

Tax will not work with macOS Catalina? Called Support twice:  I was told that there is no information available if there will be a fix, best advice was to return copy for refund. Feb. 3, 2020

Catalina has been giving me all sorts of problems — all of which (including the TurboTax verification) went away when I rebooted in safe mode (by holding down the shift key while restarting).  Using my computer in safe mode all the time is not ideal, but at least I was able to do my taxes.

This is incorrect. Applications distributed directly by developers can pass the malicious software checks that Apple put in place to stop malware. Intuit needs to update TurboTax so users don't need to bypass Apple security verification to run the (hopefully) legitimate copy of TuboTax 2019.

Just spent an hour on the phone with an Apple rep who concluded TurboTax Home & Business 2019 needs to release a software update compatible with macOS Catalina's recently released version 10.15.3. I successfully completed and filed 3 federal and state tax returns using TurboTax Home & Business 2019 over the past few weeks. The application stopped working a week ago after Apple released its current Catalina update.

Here's hoping for a speedy software compatibility update from TurboTax!

That would see to indicate that *Apple* broke something.  Perhaps it is Apple that needs to provide a fix.

I have the same problem.  I also have another MAC running Mohave, and cannot open Turbotax Delux on that machine either.  This was using the latest version of TT.

I have not heard of any problems with Mojave.

if you get the message "TurboTax cannot be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software" then that is caused by the Apple "Gatekeeper" introduced with OS X 10.15 (Catalina).

That has nothing to do with TurboTax and will happen for any application not purchased from the Apple Store.

See this Apple article on this: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202491

For older Mac systems when TurboTax will not open.
See:

Be sure that System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> General -> Allow apps downloaded from App Store and identified developers is checked.

Go to the Applications folder and select the TurboTax application in the Finder and right click with the mouse (or control click) ans select the top "open". That should force the first open. After that it should open normally.

Same error with the TurboTax Premier as well:

$ open /Applications/TurboTax\ Premier\ 2019.app
LSOpenURLsWithRole() failed with error -10810 for the file /Applications/TurboTax Premier 2019.app.

Let's focus on Catalina:

I am the account administrator.

According to Apple, when an app is blocked it will be listed under "Security & Privacy/general".  Turbotax does not appear there.

When I attempt to open, from the Applications folder. a notification temporarily flashes "please wait while xxxx check up to date" (I cannot confirm the complete message because it disappears in milliseconds).  After that, the icon stops bouncing and it is not opened.

Intuit has written TT Premier to run on Mac, therefore it should follow Mac rules.  If it is a matter of notorizing or authenticating the program, surely Intuit would do that.  I fear this is not the source of our problem.

I got as far once, I don't know how, to filing my Federal, but it was rejected because TT apparently incorrectly reported my 2018 AGI when it copied that return's information. Can't check now because I cannot open TT.  Yes I have completely uninstalled all the files and reloaded from my TT account. It will not open.

I beg for further assistance.

PS: I just attempted to open TT on Mohave again, and it fails in exactly the same way as it does with Catalina.

@Anonymous Have you recently updated to OSX 10.15.3?

I have seen several posts about an incompatibility with that update.  It would appear that Apple broke something with that update.

My understanding is that TurboTax engineers are working with Apple engineers to determine what to do and which company needs to fix it.   So far is is unresolved.

The only solution at the present time is not to apply the 10.15.3 update or back it out.
