TurboTax for Mac won't open when installed

SOLVEDby TurboTaxTurboTax Mac16420Updated October 09, 2021

When opening TurboTax for Mac after installation, you may see the TurboTax checkmark icon bounce a few times before disappearing from the menu bar. This can be accompanied by the error:

TurboTax 20xx can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.

Mac

Here's how to fix it:

  1. In the error message, select Show in Finder.
  2. The Applications folder should open, and your TurboTax 2019 product will be selected. Right click on the TurboTax 2019 product, and select Open.
  3. A similar error message will appear, again saying, TurboTax 20xx can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software. This time, select Open and TurboTax will properly install and open.
