Stupid Turbotax.
If it helps anyone out--this has been happening every year now for 3 years. I started just deleting anything from the local wages tips etc. box and leaving it blank. Not technically accurate but TurboTax doesn't seem to have a solution for this.
I had the same problem with turbotax I was gonna have my return direct deposited but it said my local taxes were more than my local wages so it said I couldn't e-file I had to do a paper check so I changed it to paper check, yeah I wasn't too happy bout that
Still a problem for tax year 2022. Where I live we have two municipalities so two lines in Box 19. I called TurboTax and a nice lady suggested I split the number in Box 18 (pro-rating it for each line). I didn't try deleting the zero. I wonder if copying the number to both lines would have worked too.
In any case, this just seems to be TurboTax trying to error check? Do the numbers in Box 18 actually end up affecting any calculation anywhere elsewhere? Could you just put anything in there and it wouldn't make a difference? I don't think they show up on the final return.
