Are you referring to a credit made available by your state of residence? What state are you referring to? Please clarify.
Yes sir I am. The state is Iowa if your a FF, EMT, PARAMEDIC, RESERVE POLICE OFFICER u can qualify for a 1st responder tax credit of 250 dollars.
You can get the First Responder Credit on your IA taxes for serving in a volunteer status. If serve in a paid status but also as a volunteer you can still qualify in certain circumstances.
For example, you are hired as an EMS person in one department and then volunteer in another department. Or, you are employed in some other capacity in a department and volunteer as an EMS person.
If you qualify you can make the entry by "Updating" the "Tax and Credits" section in the IA state return interview. You will enter the number of months you volunteered and the $250 credit will be prorated.
OK I am not considered a volunteer. I was paid parttime until November now paid full time. I do not volunteer at any other services or organizations. All of our members are paid on call.
Thank you for your service, but you do not qualify for this credit. It is the "Volunteer Firefighter, Volunteer EMS Personnel, and Reserve Peace Officer Tax Credit is available for volunteer firefighters, volunteer EMS personnel, and volunteer reserve peace officers."
