I inherited some stocks and then sold them a few months later. The 1099's I received showed the 2023 date inherited as the date acquired, though correctly classified it as long-term gain. I want to replace this date with the word INHERITED. For my Vanguard brokerage 1099, I was asked if I purchased the stock or acquired it another way and I could indicate INHERITED. But for my Vanguard mutual fund account 1099, I was not asked if I purchased the stock or acquired it another way, and there was no way to indicate INHERITED. How can I get TurboTax to ask me this question?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Delete the 1099-B (select the trash can) and re-enter it.
When entering the stock sale in the investment section of the TurboTax program, you are asked How did you receive the investment - in the dropdown select I inherited it
The problem is that when I first edited that 1099, it asked me whether I purchased it. I mistakenly said I purchased the stock. Now I want to go back and fix that. But when I click Edit on that 1099, it doesn't ask me whether I purchased the stock. It just goes directly to the 1099.
Delete the 1099-B (select the trash can) and re-enter it.
