How to file 2023 tax

Sorry for your loss.  My husband died in March.  Yes you can still file Joint for 2023.  Then For the next two years following a husband's or wife's death, the surviving spouse can file as a qualifying widow or widower if they have a qualifying child. That basically lets you continue to use the same tax brackets that apply to married-filing-jointly returns.  After the year of death if you don't have a child you file as Single.

How to file 2023 tax

You can file Married Filing Jointly (MFJ) with your deceased spouse as long as you didn't remarry.   Refer to the TurboTax articles How should I file my return if my spouse recently died?

For additional information, ‌ review the TurboTax article Death in the family.

For the next two years (2024 and 2015), you can use Qualifying Widower (QW) filing status if you have a qualified dependent.  Please see the TurboTax article Rules for Claiming a Dependent on Your Tax Return to determine in you have a qualified dependent.

Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss.
