I need to call for a good reason - the IRS said we CAN file an amended federal return electrically this year for 2019 -- but Turbotax has old info. It says I must mail my just-completed return.
The IRS specifically allowed this electronic filing this year because they don't want to be swamped with paper returns.
I need to know how to do that. Turbotax is a major tax0filing website, they must provide what the IRS has deemed correct filing.
Can you help me get in touch with them? Many people but be having this problem due to the stimulus issues this year.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks so much!

The IRS nor any of the tax preparation software companies are not yet able to e-file a 2019 federal amended tax return. The IRS has indicated they may have their systems available by August 17, 2020 for the 2019 amended tax returns, but that is only an estimate. The tax preparation software companies also have to get their systems and software approved by the IRS before they can initiate an e-filed 2019 amended tax return.
Go to this IRS website for info - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/taxpayers-will-soon-be-able-to-file-amended-tax-returns-electronically
Yeah this company is a complete scam and i should have known not to bother after i went through bs with them last time
Thank you @DoninGA for that info! So I will just mail the paper 1040x (and other necessary docs) since I already completed it. --
This part is confusing though: at the end of my Turbotax PDF 1040x that I am going to mail, there is a document attached that is titled "Electronic Postmark - Certification of Electronic Filing" and it says
"Once the IRS accepts the electronically filed return, the acceptance date will be provided by the Intuit Electronic Filing Center. This date is proof that the IRS accepted the electronically filed return."
So that makes it sound like Turbotax is going to go ahead and file 1040x electronically, then let me know when they get confirmed acceptance from the IRS. But I guess they are talking about my first 1040 form (the earlier one I am now amending) and not this new/corrected 1040x. That makes it confusing for non-tax-pros like me 🙂
That and the fact IRS didn't announce the estimated date for electronic filing. They just put out the info about "late summer" a month ago, and never updated the public. At least I did not see it on the IRS.gov site or in the press. So thanks for sharing that info! Thank goodness for this forum. If I had known I might have waited to avoid sending them a paper 1040x to process--so giving the public an update about August would have saved them from receiving paperwork.
Quite a few folks are doing 1040x simply because we used the Turbotax "Stimulus Bank Account # Submission tool" -- which was actually filing us as "Non-filers". So there will be quite a lot of 1040x done due to that.
Anyway, US Mail it is!
Turbo tax we filed online and completed, I received an email it was accepted, I checked with IRS and they do not have it. I can not file it again electronically through turbo tax it says it is already done. I have purchased turbo tax and paid to file electronic and now I am in a mess. What steps next?
How long ago was your e-file accepted?

Sometimes people get confused by the “summary” given by TurboTax and use the wrong amount for the federal refund. Make sure you are only using the federal refund amount, and not an amount that combined your federal and state refunds.
Your federal refund amount is on line 20 of your Form 1040

Make sure your return was really accepted and that you are using the right information to check its status.
Did you e-file? Did you click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”
When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first one will say that your return was submitted. The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected. If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.
First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
If the IRS accepted it, what does it say here?
Or does your account say “Ready to Mail?”
Note: If it says “Ready to Mail” or “Printed” that means YOU have to mail it yourself. TurboTax does not mail your tax return for you.
It was e-filed and I got an email that it was accepted by the federal and another email it was accepted by the state as well as an email from turbo tax saying it was e-filed. the state refund came within 2 weeks and now the federal is over 12 weeks out and still reads processing when I do check my refund.
When I go to the IRS site to look up transcripts it says all zero's and it does not have anything. Now I guess transcripts could be posted after approved but this is never happened before and I have used turbo tax for years.

need help from turbo tax to confirm my dependents change. did this 4 weeks ago and still has not updated. I can't file my taxes electronically till this is accepted. who can help me get in contact with the right department.
help.
@skinsley We cannot be sure exactly what happened since you are an "add-on" poster to a thread started by someone else. But best guess---you have a dependent who said they cannot be claimed, and now you cannot e-file? You will not be able to e-file THIS YEAR--it takes months for an amended return to be processed. The only way you can file your return and claim your dependent is to print sign and mail your own return.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
