Get your taxes done using TurboTax
Thank you @DoninGA for that info! So I will just mail the paper 1040x (and other necessary docs) since I already completed it. --
This part is confusing though: at the end of my Turbotax PDF 1040x that I am going to mail, there is a document attached that is titled "Electronic Postmark - Certification of Electronic Filing" and it says
"Once the IRS accepts the electronically filed return, the acceptance date will be provided by the Intuit Electronic Filing Center. This date is proof that the IRS accepted the electronically filed return."
So that makes it sound like Turbotax is going to go ahead and file 1040x electronically, then let me know when they get confirmed acceptance from the IRS. But I guess they are talking about my first 1040 form (the earlier one I am now amending) and not this new/corrected 1040x. That makes it confusing for non-tax-pros like me 🙂
That and the fact IRS didn't announce the estimated date for electronic filing. They just put out the info about "late summer" a month ago, and never updated the public. At least I did not see it on the IRS.gov site or in the press. So thanks for sharing that info! Thank goodness for this forum. If I had known I might have waited to avoid sending them a paper 1040x to process--so giving the public an update about August would have saved them from receiving paperwork.
Quite a few folks are doing 1040x simply because we used the Turbotax "Stimulus Bank Account # Submission tool" -- which was actually filing us as "Non-filers". So there will be quite a lot of 1040x done due to that.
Anyway, US Mail it is!
