How can I know who is using their ssn
Here is a link to the IRS website to get an IP Pin.
The IRS does not inform you of who was using the SSN fraudulently.

Please stop posting either misinformation or at the minimum, woefully lacking information.
The link that keeps getting posted again and again is ONLY FOR AN INDIVIDUAL taxpayer IP pin, NOT how to get a DEPENDENT PIN... I am capitalizing because there is a big difference here that, frustratingly, keeps getting overlooked every time someone asks this question.
The linked page also does NOT have information on how to get an IP PIN for a dependent. If it is the correct place to go, please follow up with specific directions for how to do the process for your dependent and not yourself.
As stated on the IRS website - https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/get-an-identity-protection-pin
If you want to request an IP PIN, please note:

Removing this content due to spam... Sorry I thought the reply button would initiate a chain off the response I clicked reply upon, not at the end of the whole topic thread.
@DavidD66 Please stop posting misinformation, or, at best, woefully lacking information. Please go to the link you keep spamming and either verify it is not correct and post the correct one, or, IF YOU FEEL THIS IS THE CORRECT LINK FOR DEPENDENT IP PIN GENERATION, please give further instructions, as I see no instructions on the linked page to do so.
@DoninGA The link you posted goes to a page which allows a taxpayer to generate their personal IP pin, but does not have a link or instructions for how to obtain an IP pin FOR THEIR DEPENDENT.
If you feel the link you posted is correct, please provide additional instructions for guardians/parents to get a pin for their dependent.
@Irene2805 The page you link only gives another link and instructions for creating a personal IP pin, NOT ONE FOR A DEPENDENT. It does not seem to either have a link to create a pin for a dependent, not information on how/where to get one.
This is an important detail.
If you feel the link all the helpers here keep spamming is the correct one, please provide additional instructions for how to use the link specifically for a dependent's IP pin.
@Egogre If you are unable to use the Online IP PIN application then use the Form 15227 for the dependent - https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f15227.pdf
@macuser_22 Why are all the helpers here linking a page that only refers to an individual's IP pin, not their dependents?
The link only generates an IP pin for the taxpayer. There are also no instructions for how to generate an IP pin for a dependent, nor how to retrieve one if you have not received one by mail after filing:
- 14039 ID Theft Affidavit and
- 15227 - Application for IP Pin
If you feel the link you posted is correct for obtaining an IP Pin for a DEPENDENT, please provide additional instructions for how to use the site specifically for a claimed dependent and not the taxpayer.
@DoninGA Thank you for the prompt response, however, the information you posted still does not give ANY steps to take to actually acquire or retrieve an IP pin for a dependent.
What steps do I need to take to get my dependent the IP pin from this page? Each time I click the link, I can only apply for myself, not my minor children.
For my specific case, I have filed a 15227 Application for an IP Pin after filing 14039 ID Theft Affidavit.
I have not received a pin from the IRS, but have been rejected for not giving my dependent pin.
For retrieving or getting a dependent IP pin reissued, it seems the most correct option is to go here: https://www.irs.gov/iden[product key removed]-scams/retrieve-your-ip-pin
and call the number listed.
"If you're unable to retrieve your IP PIN online, you may call us at [phone number removed] "
I am assuming there is not a way to retrieve a dependent's IP pin online (after much frustration)
