Extending your return only gives you extra time to file your tax return. Any tax due should be paid by the original due date of the return. The amount listed on the extension form is generated from your input within TurboTax.
Please see what if I can't pay my taxes for more information.
Thank you for the reply JotikaT2 but that is not the question I asked. I wish to not pay at this time. I realize there is a penalty of one half of 1% of what is owed per month but I choose not to do so. Again, the question I ask is what selections can I make in TurboTax so the form will be filed as I wish?
You can select Pay on the IRS website to get the extension e-filed. An extension gives you until October 15, 2025 to file your taxes instead of the tax deadline of April 15, 2025.
An extension does not give you extra time to pay your taxes, which are due on April 15, 2025. Even if you can't pay your taxes by the deadline, file an extension anyway so you can avoid the late-filing penalty.
