How can I get "Recovery Rebate Credit" for covid-stimulus $600 check 2020?

In 2019 I'm a NRA, but in 2020 I am a resident, and I am supposed to receive the covid stimulus check, while we still haven't filed tax for 2020 so I didn't receive the 600 check. I found in the irs website it said in this case I can get recovery rebate credit in my 2020 tax filling, how should I proceed this in Turbotax? Thanks

How can I get "Recovery Rebate Credit" for covid-stimulus $600 check 2020?

On your 2020 return (filed in 2021), you will be asked about the stimulus money. Enter any amount you have already received (if any) . Then the program will calculate if you are owed more money (which would include any amount you qualify for the second stimulus money), or it will show you don't qualify.

After the Other Tax Situations section (Federal Review) of the 2020 TurboTax program you will be asked about the stimulus payment received or not received in 2020.

After you asked about the stimulus payment & you qualify, you will get the Recovery Rebate Credit (stimulus) on the 2020 federal tax return, Form 1040 Line 30.

Are you sure?  Similar boat, I received my first one but not the second one — I closed the checking account between payments.  Confirmed was sent back to IRS.

I cannot for the life of me figure out any place to enter the recovery rebate credit.  No joke I have gone completely thru the turbotax process at least 3 or 4 times start to finish and never get asked about any stimulus payments.  I have my 1040s ready to file and see line 30 left blank.

Can i just print this off and edit it myself?

Are you eligible to receive the second stimulus payment based on the 2020 federal tax return?  Did you indicate in the My Info section you can be claimed as a dependent?

The stimulus questions are asked in the Federal Review section of the TurboTax program.  Any payment you were eligible to receive based on the 2020 Federal tax return but did not receive will be entered on the Federal tax return, Form 1040 Line 30 as a tax credit.  The credit is included in the federal tax refund or it will reduce the amount of federal taxes owed.

How can I get "Recovery Rebate Credit" for covid-stimulus $600 check 2020?

I am not eligible for the tax credit for my 2020 tax returns (filing now, 2021).  But I was eligible based off my 2019 tax returns (filed 2020).  I received the first stimulus payment, but not the 2nd.  I called the bank that I used to have the checking account with and they verified IRS tried to send the 2nd payment, but since account was closed, sent it back to the IRS.

I did not list myself as a dependent.  Just went thru it again, no stimulus questions pop up.

The stimulus payments were an advance tax credit from the 2020 federal tax return.  If you are not eligible on the 2020 tax return then you cannot receive the 2nd stimulus as a tax credit.

If you filed your tax return for 2020 but there wasn't a recovery rebate credit listed on line 30 of it, then you should wait until you receive your refund to see if it is included  with it even though it wasn't on your tax return. If not, you can file an amended return in TurboTax to include the recovery rebate credit and you should receive your missing stimulus payment of $600.

How can I get "Recovery Rebate Credit" for covid-stimulus $600 check 2020?

A long these same lines, we never received our checks as our 2019 taxes were too high. From what I've read, the amount is based on the Adjusted Gross Income, but Turbotax reduced our Rebate stating it is based on Gross Income. Are the articles I've seen wrong?

The Recovery Rebate Credit on a 2020 federal tax return is only based on the 2020 AGI, your filing status and number of dependents under the age of 17.

I never got the 600 or the 1400 from it's. I had to mail the return which showed I had no tax, according to turbo tax. That was April 21 2021. Still no refund is coming to me.

The IRS is seriously behind in processing 2020 tax returns.  This is due to many factors, such as the pandemic, completing processing of millions of 2019 tax returns, stimulus payments, unemployment compensation exclusion tax refunds., changes in the tax code by Congress in the middle of the 2020 tax season and the like.

Millions of taxpayers have not yet received there federal tax refunds.

As of July 17, 2021, we had 15.6 million unprocessed individual returns. Unprocessed individual returns include tax year 2020 returns such as those requiring correction to the Recovery Rebate Credit amount or validation of 2019 income used to figure the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). This work does not require us to correspond with taxpayers but does require special handling by an IRS employee so, in these instances, it is taking the IRS more than 21 days to issue any related refund and in some cases this work could take 90 to 120 days. If, as a result, a correction is made to any RRC, EITC or ACTC claimed on the return, the IRS will send taxpayers an explanation. Taxpayers are encouraged to continue to check Where’s My Refund? for their personalized refund status and can review Tax Season Refund Frequently Asked Questions.

What you should do: In most instances, no further action is needed but you may check Where’s my refund or you can view your account. If you filed electronically and received an acknowledgement, you do not need to take any further action other than promptly responding to any requests for information. If you filed on paper, check Where’s my refund? If it tells you we have received your return or are processing or reviewing it, we are processing your return, but it may be under review. We’re working hard to get through the backlog. Please don’t file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.

Mailed tax returns are taking a VERY long time to be processed.   You are among millions of people waiting for a mailed return to be processed.   The IRS is very backlogged.  All you can do is be patient.   If you were getting a recovery rebate credit it is shown on line 30 of your Form 1040.   The IRS is reviewing every return that has an amount on line 30, so it takes a long time.

The $1400 is not shown on your 2020 return.   That EIP is issued separately and later by the IRS.   No one at TurboTax can tell you when it will be sent.

TurboTax cannot track your 3rd stimulus or tell you when it will arrive.  The IRS is issuing 3rd stimulus checks on its own timetable.

You can use the IRS Get My Payment site to see what is expected for your 3rd stimulus check:

As of June 23, 2021, we had 17.5 million unprocessed individual returns in the pipeline. Unprocessed returns include tax year 2020 returns such as those requiring correction to the Recovery Rebate Credit amount or validation of 2019 income used to figure the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). This work does not require us to correspond with taxpayers but does require special handling by an IRS employee so, in these instances, it is taking the IRS more than 21 days to issue any related refund. How long you may have to wait: The IRS understands the importance of timely processing of tax returns and refund issuance. We have processed all error free returns received prior to 2021, and continue to work the returns that need to be manually reviewed due to errors.  We are rerouting tax returns and taxpayer correspondence from locations that are behind to locations where more staff is available, and we are taking other actions to minimize any delays. Tax returns are opened and processed in the order received. As the return is processed, it may be delayed because it has a mistake including errors concerning the Recovery Rebate Credit, is missing information, or there is suspected identity theft or fraud. If we can fix it without contacting you, we will. If we need more information or need you to verify that it was you who sent the tax return, we will write you a letter. The resolution of these issues depends on how quickly and accurately you respond, and the ability of IRS staff trained and working under social distancing requirements to complete the processing of your return.

What you should do: If you filed electronically and received an acknowledgement, you do not need to take any further action other than promptly responding to any requests for information. If you filed on paper, check Where’s my refund? If it tells you we have received your return or are processing or reviewing it, we are processing your return, but it may be under review. We’re working hard to get through the backlog. Please don’t file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.
