How can I add health insurance information to my California return when TurboTax forces me to skip that section?

Sorry Scott,

We do not have a Form 5490 in NJ.

Hopefully someone in CA will help you.

How can I add health insurance information to my California return when TurboTax forces me to skip that section?

I called Turbotax, worked with someone for about 15 minutes, they put me on hold and them somehow we got disconnected... grrrr...

I called back, spent a hour or so with someone else, they logged into my Turbotax on my computer and checked everything, put me on hold for a while, and their conclusion is I need to print my CA return and snail mail it in.  Apparently the problem is not fixable.

I then asked about the $20 I've already paid for the CA e-file, and they said it was to download CA?? what? The version of TT I purchased comes with a free state, then I pay per e-file...

After some back and forth she told me how to apply for a refund... we'll see if that ever happens.

So frustrated...

I had a similar problem that I could not get the box checked in line 92 of the California form 540 when I specified that someone could claim me as a dependent. It seems that the issue that if you specify that someone else can claim you as a dependent, then later on TurboTax skips the part where it asks you about your medical coverage.

Here is the workaround I found: first go back to the "My Info" and change your selection to say that no one can claim you (this is only temporary), then go back and edit your state return and TurboTax will now let you specify if you had medical coverage. When you're done updating the medical coverage info, you go back to "My Info" and change it back to say that someone can claim you. This worked for me to get the boxes checked on both line 6 and line 92 of my 540.
