Other software has this form up and running ther for the problem does not lie with the IRS but with Intuit.
Elextaxfl, You're right--TurboTax even updated their software to show that the form was ready to file.
TurboTax should work on this issue sooner than Feb 18th. It seems that they are updating the software & forms every time I log into our return (which is normally how I see their program updates).
If they cannot get our Desktop version to e-file, TurboTax should give us free access to file via their online software.
Yea like April 15th ?
just to be clear for others now coming to this game/chain of posts, the IRS HAS published the final 7206 Form, it is NOT in DRAFT mode any longer
IF anyone/everyone can accept this, TT is in fact aware of and working on the Desktop Version of their software to allow an eFile, I recommend searching through this rather lengthy post "string/story" to find the posting by @CatinaT1 as she has the ONLY way for you to know if TT has fixed the issue posted.
I am confident that everyone is as disappointed in Intuit/TurboTax as I am for their handling of this issue. While I am not standing up to defend the company, I do completely understand exactly how this situation occurs based on a long career in the industry/software interface world. In ALL instances I have ever witnessed or been a party to, even a completely numskull error that should have never existed can be correctly and properly dealt with. Sadly, it does not appear that Intuit/TT is "on their A game" when it comes to addressing bugs discovered after their go-live production date.
Personally, it is my belief that the company should have some sort of VERY PROMINENT banner/notice posted on this community bulletin board area at least in addition to their corporate site as well about this bug/problem/issue with desktop versions of this year's tax filing software. If they would simply publicly exclaim their miss and efforts to correct along with an ETA of the patch, they would save an awful lot of customers who are most likely leaving the company after their negative experiences this year.
Sorry, NO OFFENSE meant to anyone here, just adding 2 cents in hopes it helps others
Same issue. Says TT cannot file electronically due to form 7206. TT [download] on my computer is up to date.

Can we please get an update on when this will be fixed for desktop app? We paid for the software too so it would be nice if we could get the update like online did so that we can get our billions back. This is very frustrating, especially with no communication.
Just tried filing with H&R Block tax software and got the same error message about not being able to e-file because of SE health insurance. I'd planned to try to return the TurboTax software, if I could successfully e-file with H&R Block, but apparently neither software product is ready.
Still not working as of 2/12. Getting the same error.

@EdBemis - I was the one who originally reported the form as NOT being a draft - not sure what post you are referring to - I am a preparer - I work with the IRS daily - there is nothing wrong with their forms - its TT that has the issue and they are leaving ALL of us hanging. I've actually had to send potential clients to HR Block because of this debacle - and now this is backing up all my early filers into the heavy time I am actively looking for another solution to file these returns. In 15 years of using TT this is a FIRST. Intuit has absolutely screwed the pooch here.
Ed I'm totally confused then. The IRS' website says the form is a draft. https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-dft/i7206--dft.pdf I checked the date of the page and it was updated February 1, 2024. Is there a way to confirm that the form is no longer in draft format?
This page also shows the form is currently only a draft. Please note on that page the status is as of 2/6/2024.
This IS disappointing! I just received my last 1099 and finished up my return to e-file and received this same Form 7206 message. Very disappointing as I've been using TT software for 30 years and never had anything like this happen to me before.
@6ixgun ya SORRY about that... as soon as I submitted what I typed, I returned and edited it because I realized what you typed! In the end what I was trying to do is get everyone else that comes here searching for an answer to get the actual facts.... at least the ones I know of and have uncovered researching the issue! 😉
@tventre be careful NOT to get mad at me here!!.... 😉
- When you use a web-browser to search Google or any other website, including the IRS it stores forms and such in its "cache" as well as "cookies" so that it can try and decide on its own if it can deliver you what you clicked on FASTER than having to go get the data each time. This is why you see so many IT peeps asking... "have you cleared your cache, cookies, history etc?" all the time.
If you do have a "clean browser" (cache flushed and cookies cleared) and then go directly to the IRS.GOV website and type in the search field 7206 an hit enter... you SHOULD be brought to this link/page;
like this;
THAT will show you SEPARATE links for Instructions and the Form..... each one are finalized and no longer watermarked with DRAFT in the background.
Good luck!
