forced to upgarde to 'plus' to access a previous return

It says to click on 'upgarade' in the left hand menu...

There is no left hand menu, and I cannot locate 'upgrade anywhere!

Having the same issue. Why is it so frustrating trying to pay to access an old return? Can an admin help us please!?!?

The system is presently in transition from 2018 to 2019, so you cannot get PLUS right now to access old returns.  The change will be complete in December.

Meanwhile you can get a free transcript from the IRS:

You can get a free transcript from the IRS:

https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

And going forward--to avoid this problem:

Every year, before mid-October, print a copy of your current year tax return and save it as a tax file and pdf, too.  That way you will have it when you need it for school, a loan, next year’s tax return, etc. without going through a lot of aggravation (and expense)  to get it.

So it's December. When will the 2017 returns be available? I have the software & a transcript but it's missing information from the filing. I need a copy of what was filed vs the transcript. I had copies electronic & paper. We had laptop meltdowns and moved and some boxes got shuffled. So I NEED MY RETURNS ASAP.

How do i get it?

@Indyfan552 The online 2019 software is supposed to be available on Dec. 4, so the PLUS upgrade should also be available then.  You mentioned "laptop failure"--if you used desktop software the tax files were not stored online; returns prepared using desktop software are only stored on your own hard drive.

I did save it but there was something in the file that once the dead line hit you can no longer access them and pull them up.

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

You can also get free transcripts of your federal return from the IRS - http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-Transcript

For a fee of $50 you can get a complete federal tax return from the IRS by completing Form 4506 - http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created.  TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for when access to the online tax returns expire - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/prior-year-return/help/when-does-access-to-my-prior-year-turbotax-...

You will not be able to upgrade to the Plus edition for tax year 2018 since the TurboTax online editions for 2018 have closed to make way for the 2019 online editions.  Once the 2019 online editions become available December 4, at that time you can start a 2019 return and upgrade to Plus.

Or contact TurboTax support during business hours and see if there are any other options available for accessing a prior year online tax return.
