Third year in a row I've experienced this bug. What a pain in the A**!
Last year I was able to mark it as an estimate, then clear the mark as estimate. This year, that trick didn't work 😠.
I have so many supporting details that I refuse to type back in; instead I did a print preview of medical worksheet to save the details to a file for record keeping, then just put the totals in the form after deleting the buggy form.
I deleted the Medical Worksheet and allowed the program to regenerate the worksheet as well. Thanks! This worked!
Having had to use the nuclear option (delete the form and reenter everything) in past years, I didn't want to reenter all my Medical Expenses deductions again; Again.
Thankfully, this thread provided some ideas over the last year:
1. @maglib suggested clearing up any other estimated items in the return. I tried this, no luck.
2. @tstucsonaz suggested going to forms and entering each value again. I just pressed enter for each box and went down into the supporting details where they existed and did the same there. Again, no luck.
3. @sjonescrg and @Jonesy tried clicking through the Medical Expenses Step-by-Step interview. Finally I got the red out!
It appears that there are multiple ways to stimulate this "Hdeduc is marked as estimated" error so it is necessary to fix all of the possible causes before that red exclamation point will go away. So, try the obvious verify and un-mark all your estimates; the easy clicking through the Medical Expenses Step-by-Step interview; the less easy press enter for each box through the Medical Expenses form and its supporting details; and once the simple stuff didn't work, save the return as a PDF with all worksheets and supporting details then delete the offending form and reenter your information. You can save some time here by not bothering with the supporting details and entering the numbers directly in the new copy of the Medical Expenses form as they appear in the PDF Medical Expenses form.
This solution still works for 2020. You would have thought that TurboTax Deluxe would have been fixed for a problem from over a year ago.
Still a glitch in 2020 premium version. The solution of printing the medical expense worksheet and then regenerating the form and manually completing work! Great but Intuit should not fix the **bleep** problem
you should really fix this software glitch, this is the third year in a row that this error occurs.
FIX IT!!!!!
They still haven't fixed it in the 2020 version! Really?
After more than 5 HOURS on the phone with support, including trying that (multiple times with multiple support people), my 1099-R still says there is a field marked estimated...there isn't and there is no such field name in the form.
Looking on Google, it appears this is a long standing bug in TurboTax, and this has has prevented me from filing. If the review fails, e-filing is locked out. All they could suggest is starting over in the web version. So much for my investment inTurboTax and state e-filing.
And, re-entering doesn't always fix the problem...I've done this THREE TIMES, during 5+ hours with TT support. They said "you will have to switch to the web version and start your return over".
Unfortunately TT doesn't allow e-filing if the review fails. In my case it's a 1099-R, with significant $, so I can't just leave it out.
Like others have written, this is a recurring issue. I have it again with TT Home&Business for 2020. Unfortunately, deleting the form, saving the return, exiting TT, opening TT, and completing the Medical Expenses section - twice, so far - doesn't fix the problem.
Could there be some carryover from my 2019 return that is causing this????
I would appreciate any other ideas.
I think the issue is definitely copied in when you import your returns from the previous year. Last year I deleted the form an just put the totals needed in the return. This year the problem was gone for me.
Well, it's MORE than 2 years now. Working on the 2020 tax returns and I now get these same message ... Sheesh, I wish they'd fix it...
This incorrect "estimated amount error"...for gibberish fields that don't even exist in the form...bug completely prevented me from finishing my taxes on TurboTax this year. After multiple calls to layers of support, the best thing they could suggest is "start your taxes all over on the on-line version, maybe that won't have the bug". I did have to start over and do my taxes manually, and mail them in, so I STILL HAVEN"T RECEIVED MY REFUND!
THIS IS INSANE! This bug has been around for at least two years and the incompetent fools at TurboTax can's seem to fix it. Next year I won;t waste my time and money on TurboTax, after being a user for decades.
2022 - It is still here!!
