filing early, pay by april 15

if I efile Federal early, like in March, but pay taxes by April 15, will IRS hold back processing or consider it not filed until I pay? when does IRS process my taxes - when I file or when I pay, as long as before deadline? Also, is there any penalty paying after you file, as long as it's before April 15? So, essentially, feds give grace period between filing and payment, as long as its before 4/15?  trying to figure out when to pay. thanks.

You can file now and pay by April 15; that is very common.   Just mark your calendar and make sure you pay by the deadline.

 If you have federal tax due you can pay by mailing your payment with the 1040V voucher, (which has the address printed on it, having the payment taken out of a designated bank account, or you can pay directly on the IRS website.

Many thanks! I wanted to be sure IRS uses my 2020 filing for next stimulus check, if it gets passed. but needed a little time to send in payment. nice feds give little breather space.
