I had the exact same problem. My error said "Failed_Validation" blah, blah, blah. It wouldn't let me e-file until I installed the update. I checked the online menu and clicked on "Check for updates". It told me that my software was up to date...it wasn't, same issue. I downloaded the "superpatch", ran it and it said the patch was applied. Tried to e-file again, same issue. I uninstalled then re-installed again, still no luck. I ended up uninstalling TT and re-downloaded the software from the place that I bought from, (Staples). I re-installed and opened the program. My return came up. I checked all of the info, payment, DL, and all other info that I had entered on my saved return and hit, the transmit button and it went through. The trick seemed to be, uninstall, re-download the program from the seller, re-install and continue where you left off...I really hope this works for you. Good luck!!!
$15hr?!?!? Pfffft!
How about $50hr?

If your TurboTax Desktop software isn't up to date with the latest release, you'll get this message when you try to e-file.
To resolve this issue, update TurboTax. After the update installs, restart TurboTax, select File, and e-file your return.
If you keep getting this message after updating TurboTax, reboot your computer and try e-filing again.
In rare cases, you'll keep getting this message even after restarting Windows. If that happens:
(yeah, I'm going to uninstall TurboTax and re-install and lose everything that I worked on for 3 returns including the filing fee I already paid?!?!?)
This is ridiculous.
I am having this same error 54 when using the Business and Trust desk program.
How do I fine an update so I can file my Federal tax. I have never had a problem in the pass.
I bought Turbo tax from Amazon and installed on my Mac computer. I had the exact same issue. The software is updated because I checked the update again and again. But the transmission error always happens. Then I uninstalled and re-installed the software, does not help. The same issue. This transmission only happens to my Michigan state e-filing. I did NOT have issue with federal tax and other state e-filings before I tried Michigan state tax e-filing. How to fix this issue?
Here is is the error message:
"Transmission failed: FAILED_VALIDATION. There is an update available for your version of TurboTax. Before you can file electronically, you'll need to get this update. To do this, go to the Online menu and select Check for Updates".
I finally get the issue solved. After re-installation, opened the software, and automatically connected to the original file, no luck in e-filing. Then I closed the software totally. Re-opened the software, then software detect a Michigan update. I updated it by following the instruction. Re-did the e-filing for Michigan state tax. Yes, the transmission went through. Clearly this is a software bug that Turbotax cannot identify the new update somehow. Hopefully TurboTax can fix this issue so that in the future users will not have this same issue again and again by wasting time and money in trying different solutions.
I was able to e-file my Federal Taxes after running the Super Patch, but still can't e-file my Wisconsin tax return.
failed_validation error message in TurboTax Deluxe.
Help!
Uninstalled and reinstalled fixed the problem
Having the same error code and it is now 3/17, last date to file. Ugh!
I have already transmitted 2 other filings two days ago, so I know it works.
Can you clarify if you have tried the manual updated provided by MarilynG1? There is a way to manually update your TurboTax software. Per TurboTax, "If you're having trouble updating your TurboTax 2024 for Windows Individual software using the "Check for Updates" method, here are instructions for how you can get the latest federal program update:
See the link below:
The manual update file only works for the MS Windows folks. What about an update file for the Mac users?
