A vehicle purchased on August 16, 2022 qualifies for the tax credit even if it wasn't assembled in North America and even if the buyer didn't have a contract in place by August 15, 2022. Turbo Tax is wrong on this point. TurboTax says the purchase had to be by 8/15/22 if the car wasn't assembled in NA and there was no purchase contract by 8/15/22.
This IRS post makes it clear that a purchase date of 8/16/22 qualifies (https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/credits-for-new-electric-vehicles-purchased-in-2022-or-before), as does this TT blog post (https://blog.turbotax.intuit.com/health-care/inflation-reduction-act-of-2022-52555/). The date changed by a day when Biden signed the bill (on 8/16/22), but TT didn't update its systems.
I bought my car on 8/16/22. If I can't get TT to fix this, I'm going to have to change the date on the form and submit by mail. Does anyone know how to pass this error to the development team at TT? I've been on the phone with them about 6 times, no luck.

Thank you @JohnB5677! Unfortunately, when I try to create the diagnostic file, it gives me an error because it says the file was created in a different TurboTax product. (I started my return on the online version and then imported it to Desktop TurboTax when I was having this issue with the rebate date.)
Is there any way around this?
Thank you again for your help!

I was able to create a tax file and sent it to an agent. The token number is 11099415.
Again, the issue is that Turbo Tax (both desktop and software version) says that a vehicle purchased on August 16, 2022 doesn't qualify for the tax rebate if 1) it wasn't assembled in North America or 2) the buyer didn't have a contract in place by August 15, 2022. This IRS post makes it clear that a purchase date of 8/16/22 qualifies without North American assembly or a contract signed before 8/16/22 (https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/credits-for-new-electric-vehicles-purchased-in-2022-or-before)
Thank you for your help!
Just grab the bull by the horns and change the date(?) 🤔
@Bethel0 The Token number you've given is too long. Can you please try again.
@JohnH1 I understand that you can use this as a workaround, but we're concerned that TurboTax is providing accurate information and calculations.
Here is a TurboTax article that may assist you with this experience. TurboTax recommends filing an extension while the updates are worked. You can also sign up there to receive notifications of the updates.
It looks like TurboTax has fixed this issue on both Desktop and online, though they took down that article. Thank you.
