Entered two W2 forms into the software and when my tax return is generated the W2 income is not showing up in line 1a Form 1040

Nothing else very simple.   I have two W2 forms inputted and when I preview the final tax return line 1a 1040 shows 0

That is unusual.  Please try these steps.

  • It sounds like you have a copy of your 1040 tax return available.  If not, follow these steps.
    1. On the menu bar on the left that shows.
      1. My Info
      2. Federal
      3. State
      4. Review
      5. File
    2. Select Tax Tools
    3. On the drop-down select Tools
    4. On the popup menu
    5. Select View Tax Summary
    6. On the left sidebar
    7. Select Preview my 1040.
  • Check Line 25 - Withholdings. (This will be an indication if anything transferred to your tax return)
  • Now go back to the W-2 Input screen.
    • On sidebar 
    • Federal 
    • Wages & Income 
    • Select Wages and Salaries, or Revisit
    • Select add a W-2 for the appropriate person if married.
    • Post the tax ID number for the employer
    • If you want to import the W-2, enter the value from box 1 of the W-2
    • Follow instructions for the import.
    • If not, select [Change how I enter my form]
    • [Type it Myself]
  • You should see both of your W-2s listed.
  • Go into each of them and confirm that they are posted correctly.  Especially Box 1.
  • If they seem to be correct, I suggest you delete and re-enter each of them manually.
  • You can delete the W-2 by selecting the Trashcan on the right.

I have the same problem, but with TurboTax HomeOffice on my PC.   I have two W-2's and used the "recommended" upload pdf option which captured images of both W-2's.   Both uploaded fine.   I can see the total on the TurboTax page entitled "Your 2022 Income Summary" under "Wages and Salaries" "Form W-2".   Total is correct.    However, on my completed 1040 form, Lines 1a and 1b are both zero.   When I view Forms, "Form W-2" for both companies, each looks fine--no exclamation points.   The Form "Wages, etc. Wks" shows zero on lines 1a and 1b.    Any ideas?

Delete the imported W2s and manually enter them.  That usually clears it out.

My confidence in TurboTax is badly shaken.   OK, I deleted both W-2's and entered both by hand.   On the TurboTax Sheet "Your 2022 Income Summary" under "Wages and Salaries", the total W-2 wages look correct.  On the TurboTax sheet "N.. and M.., Here's a picture of your 2022 Income" Wages and Salaries line has "-390,329".   All other entries on this sheet look OK.

 

I've used TurboTax for 20+ years and this has been a disaster.   I could not upload my Edward Jones account information and now this.   Is there a way I can re-install the entire program and not loose what I have entered since I was at the check return phase?

OK, I think I have it working correctly now.   Typo on manual entry...
